Earth and Sky (Astrology)

Earth and Sky: October 6 - 12

Venus and Jupiter are visible in the evening sky; look for them burning brightly after sunset. The Moon moves through Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces as it gradually grows to fullness early next week. There are two meteor showers with the major one occurring in Orion and a minor one in Draco. The Orionids are active from October 2 through November 7th peaking October 20 – 22nd, with 20 meteors per hour just before dawn.

Starting out the week on Monday, the Sun and Mercury are conjoined. When the Sun’s rays shine on a planet, the planet’s energies are magnified. Remember that Mercury is still...

Earth and Sky: September 29 - October 5

A New Moon in Libra begins the week, continuing the relationship theme. We leave September behind and enter October 1st on Wednesday – Jimmy Carter’s birthday. What a humanitarian. Happy Birthday, Jimmy!

Venus is now in Scorpio, adding intensity and a desire to go deeper, rather than just the superficial. Relationships can be catalyzed now to go beyond limiting dynamics. Venus will find us in financial situations and/or relationships that empower or are disempowering us. In Scorpio, we interact in ways which will bring about major changes to everyone involved. An old limiting pattern may...

Earth and Sky: September 22 - 28

The Sun begins its journey through Libra at 9:45 am Monday morning and the first day of autumn begins in the northern hemisphere. The Sun crosses the equator at an equinox, causing sunrise to be due east and sunset due west. For a moment in time, light and dark are balanced. Day and night are of equal length.

Our one-on-one personal relationships are also undergoing a balance. Libra also represents business partners and legal advocates. Since Mercury will be retrograde from September 24 – October 15th, don’t be surprised if important business decisions or court cases, weddings or divorce...

Earth and Sky: September 15 - 21

There is a subtle change in the light and the nights are becoming cooler as this week leads up to the equinox on the 22nd when the first day of autumn begins.

The full Moon on Monday rises in the east as the Sun sets and travels all night across the sky, setting as the Sun rises. Full Moons bring awareness, and this Moon conjoins with Uranus “The Awakener” in Pisces. It is time to awaken to our own reality, giving vital energy toward our vision. Is this the life we want? Where have we fallen into conformity? What is the dream each of us holds for our life?

Earth and Sky: September 8 - 14

High energy starts out the week and it’s time to make things happen! Something that has been in a holding pattern the last 4 to 5 months finally gives. This past week, you may have been reconnected with a spark of a belief you once had, principles about life that you hold dear. A feeling of enthusiasm reaches out to you. Rather than giving up, allow hope to come alive again. Jupiter, the planet of hope, is moving forward once again and beckons us to participate more fully in life. Believe in yourself and what is possible. We may have lost our way for awhile, but it is time to bring back the

Earth and Sky: September 1 - 7

Mercury, Venus and Mars will be just above the setting crescent Moon on Monday. These three planets are forming a triangle among themselves in Libra. The brightest of the three is Venus, Mars has a reddish hue. This pair corresponds to our feminine and masculine energy. Venus is magnetic and yin while Mars is electric and yang. This celestial get-together can bring strong impulses in our social interactions. We could be attracted to or repelled by others. There could be a passionate response towards our creative endeavors. If you are an artist, this is a good time to put lots of...

Earth and Sky: August 25 - 31

We finish out the dramatic month of August with a New Moon this weekend. Having now moved into its yearly Virgo period, the Sun’s focus takes on a more practical approach making us a bit more discerning. We look at things more realistically, and notice what needs to be done in order to improve upon a situation. Jupiter in Capricorn combines optimism with perseverance. Its trine to Saturn can bring a collapse or ending of an ongoing situation that was not really working. Accept it and move forward.

Virgo is the sign of the virgin. The word virgin means pure and undefiled, showing this...

Earth and Sky: August 18 - 24

The Sun leaves the sign of Leo and enters Virgo on Friday. Virgo is the sign that represents the artisan, learning the craft and technique through a teacher and producing fine workmanship. Virgo is the sign that seeks perfection. They never feel “ready” because there is always more to improve upon. Virgos need to feel useful and are always ready to help. Sometimes that helpfulness is motivated by the need to have things done according to their standards. They are the ones who walk into a room and notice the one thing out of place. Of course, this makes them excellent doctors, editors, body...

Earth and Sky: August 11 - 17

The Harvest Moon this week will be supercharged, as it is a Full Moon lunar eclipse. People born in the middle of the months of February, May, August or November could feel this more strongly. On August 1st there was a New Moon solar eclipse in Leo. We will now experience the Full Moon eclipse this Saturday in the sign of Aquarius. A rule of thumb: it is best to wait 3 days after an eclipse to stage an important event. The intense concentration of energy will have dispersed enough by then.

The Perseus meteor shower peaks on Tuesday. Check last week’s column for details.

Earth and Sky: August 4 - 10

As only the sliver of the Moon is shining, it is a good week for stargazing. Venus is the brightest planet in the evening sky, visible over the horizon after sunset. Next in brightness is Jupiter and reddish Mars can be found to the right of the crescent Moon. The Perseus meteor showers are occurring this week and will peak on August 12th.

Venus changes signs entering Virgo on Wednesday, joining Mars and Saturn in the sign. Mercury will be added to this group on Sunday, bringing the focus upon details and practical solutions.

We may become more discriminate in who we hang out with. The...
