Earth and Sky: June 30 - July 6

We leave behind the month of June and enter July, with Independence Day celebrations and family picnics ahead.

Mars leaves the sign of Leo and for the next 3 weeks will combine forces with Saturn in Virgo. This is a difficult combination of action (Mars) and restriction (Saturn), which can lead to frustration. It’s like driving a car with one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake at the same time. There is a purpose for it; it holds us in check. It is meant to get us to consider our responses before reacting impulsively. Response vs. reaction. Yes, it can be frustrating....

Earth and Sky: June 23 - 29

Santafe.com was launched on January 1st this year. That week in my column I mentioned that the Moon’s Nodes had just entered Leo and Aquarius. These are a good indicator of the general feelings of the people. The cycle changes every 18 months, showing collective shifts in how we are feeling about our world. There is a quality of fate or destiny associated with the Nodes. Messages or messengers can bring important information this year, awakening people to new perspectives.

This year we feel the effects of a struggle between the Leo (North Node) and Aquarius (South Node). Briefly, the...

Earth and Sky: June 16 - 22

Several important planetary events occur this week. The Summer Solstice on Friday marks the beginning of summer. Both the Sun and Venus enter the sign of Cancer. Mercury turns direct. And there’s a Full Moon in Sagittarius.

With Mercury in direct motion, those miscommunications and annoying problems with electronics and machinery should subside.

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year.

The Sun moves into the sign of Cancer and for the next four weeks the focus turns to home and family. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which represents the feminine and the nurturing mother....

Earth and Sky: June 9 - 15

Venus, the goddess of love is prominent as the week begins. Monday through Wednesday is an auspicious time with Venus and the Sun merging, which brings her energy radiating down upon us along with the Sun’s rays. She corresponds to matters of the heart, our feelings and connections. How does your heart feel? Venus rules the heart chakra. Are you content with your life and your relationships? Since these two conjoin in the sign of Gemini, it is an opportunity for opening up barriers through communication with others. Finding common ground is a theme as you connect with others. Get in touch...

Earth and Sky: June 2 - 8

June is a month of much planetary activity. Meteor showers will be seen in the sky, the Summer Solstice occurs, Mercury turns direct and Venus rises with the Sun on June 9th and officially leaves its position as the Morning Star. Venus has been hidden by the Sun’s rays and will not be visible until July 16th, when it rises as the Evening Star. These dates—June 9th and July 16th—are important ones. The Babylonians and Mesoamericans such as the Maya, considered Venus’ last setting before and first appearance as Morning or Evening Star as a marker for world events. More detail on this is given...

Earth and Sky: May 26 - June 1

It’s Mercury retrograde time again! On Memorial Day both Mercury and Neptune slow down and begin to backtrack. Holiday plans or picnics may encounter delays or minor irritating disruptions. Tuesday the moon enters Pisces bringing even more confusion to this retrograde effect. Go with the flow and don’t expect precision. Mercury will be retrograde until June 20th. It’s a good time to reconsider or see options you haven’t noticed before. Instead of using rational thinking, get creative in your approach to situations. Right brain activities are favored such as artistic inspiration, music,...

Earth and Sky: May 19 - 25

A full moon in Scorpio starts off the week on Monday, giving us all a chance to “take out our emotional trash” and clean the closets where we may have been hanging onto something for too long. Two weeks ago the powerful supermoon new moon in Taurus pulled strongly on the planet and our individual lives as well. The devastating cyclone in Asia, the volcanic eruption in Chile, along with tornadoes in the Midwest are some indicators of its strength. Some people experienced strong emotional situations while others felt a releasing of energy and a “shift” in their lives. Since then, the moon has...

Earth and Sky: May 12 - 18

The week starts with opportunities for success in any endeavor if you put some effort into it. By Wednesday your energy level may drop, and your body will be in need of a day off. So, make the most of Monday and Tuesday this week for accomplishing something that you really want. People will be more open and receptive then.

We are heading towards a powerful full moon on the 19th, which begins to feel like a wave that is swelling as the weekend arrives. Saturday can be challenging and throw you off balance; be careful of accidents with sharp metal objects.

Earth and Sky: May 5 - 11

This week begins with a supermoon on Monday May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. A new moon which occurs when it is closest to the earth is called a supermoon. As a result, we have a couple of weeks with intense weather patterns and high tides. Since the moon affects the rhythms of our bodies, there can be high emotional tides as well as those in the oceans! This new moon is in the sign of Taurus, and areas of our life affected could be self worth issues, self reliance, finances and possessions, survival and values.

On May 8th the ongoing meteor showers peak. They can be seen in the hours just before dawn.

Earth and Sky: April 28 - May 3

Venus is visible as the Morning Star shining brightly in the sky just before dawn. This is the last week to see her before the sun’s rays combine with this planet, blocking her from view. We will have to wait for her to reappear as the Evening Star in July. Meteor showers this weekend can be seen easily, with a dark night sky as the Moon becomes a sliver. Look for them in the early morning hours. There are two different showers that coincide and peak around May 4th and 5th. The new moon on May 5th is a SuperMoon. This is a term used when a new moon occurs at the time the moon is closest to...
