Credits Keep Building for Star

Aviva Farber, Santa Fe's budding film star who made a splash as a young temptress in the hit movie "Superbad," will be on the small screen tonight.

Aviva— she goes by one name professionally— has a role in tonight's episode of "Criminal Minds." She plays the daughter in a perfect-looking family that, as the plot develops, turns out to be anything but.

The show airs at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Despite her continued success in Hollywood, Aviva— daughter of Realtor Laurie Farber-Condon and Adobeworks owner Aram Farber— still loves coming home to Santa Fe, she said in a recent interview.

She was back for the 2007 Santa Fe Film Festival's screening of her movie "Forgiving the Franklins." It is scheduled to be released on DVD on May 20.

But she also likes to come home for "the open sky, good people, the art scene, and of course, the food," she said.

Aviva said she took the recent Hollywood screenwriters' striker in stride.

"It forced me to explore other things," she said. "I'm learning to play the cello."

"The strike slowed things down, but it didn't really affect projects already filming," she said.

One of her current projects is "Spring Break '83," a comedy that parodies the 1980s "Spring Break" movies. But she said she wants to act in more than just comedies like "Spring Break '83" and "Superbad."

She was in an episode of CBS's "Cold Case" as a young murderer, her favorite role. "I like having to constantly create new characters," Aviva said.

"If I'm enjoying each step along the way, I am successful," said the Santa Fe High grad.

"There are a lot of stars who make it big without the being a celebrity," she said. "I really respect Natalie Portman. I think she has a great career."

But she wouldn't mind being better known.

"I look forward to the days when I can pick which projects I'm interested in, and also develop my own," Aviva said.

"Ideally I would love to be working on a project back home in New Mexico," she said.

And she'd eventually like to move back to the Land of Enchantment.

"New Mexico's home," she said. "There's no place like it."
