Pippin Meikle Fine Art

It’s not just Canyon Road anymore…

Nestled just off Santa Fe’s globally recognized icon of creativity, Canyon Road, is a gallery that is attracting a great deal of attention since it opened in 2006. Pippin Meikle Fine Art, ten steps off Canyon Road on Delgado Street, is home to a shimmering collection of palettes, splashed onto canvases that vary from the emotionally abstract work of owner Aleta Pippin to the joyfully impressionistic paintings of co-owner, Barbara Meikle.

Pippin and Meikle have lived the dream of self expression most of their lives, but through different venues. Pippin became a successful businesswoman in Houston before letting expression of her inner self through art come to dominate her life. Meikle worked in the art world in Denver, Chicago, and New York before returning to New Mexico to follow the passion of her own painting. Both drawn to Santa Fe, they kept finding themselves displaying their art together in the same galleries and shows. It became obvious that they were kindred spirits whose work was complementary, and when they found the bright, airy space on Delgado Street, they took a very successful plunge into the gallery world.

The old adobe style gallery, with its high ceilings and airy spaces, immediately invites one to breathe in the essence of color and emotion that exemplify the work of both Aleta Pippin and Barbara Meikle, as well as the other artists they represent. The sculpture garden behind the gallery is a unique gathering of talent, varying from nature inspired metal and rock to bright primary colored abstract sculptures. Clients have described the gallery as “uniquely welcoming”, “cheerful”, and “a beautiful space, almost spiritual in nature.” Certainly infused with the personalities of its owners, Pippin Meikle Fine Art is a dynamic, growing gallery to visit and experience. Visit Delgado Street for a new outlook on what art is all about. Find out why it’s not just about Canyon Road in Santa Fe now.

Artists

Aleta Pippin

When oil paint meets extraordinary creativity, the resulting work can be a synergistic explosion of emotion on the canvas. This is what happens each time Aleta Pippin sets to work with a palette knife and her oils, mixed with her unique medium that results in exquisitely thin glazes. A single painting may have as many as 30 layers of glazed color, creating a glowingly rich depth of color.

But Aleta is more than simply a painter of pictures; she is an artist who reaches out with her medium to touch each person in the very core of their being, that place in all of us that does not recognize shape or form, but innately reacts to color, passion, joy and possibility. Her images are often inspired by music, ranging from Pink Floyd to George Gershwin. And, consequently, the name for each canvas simply seems to come to her as she finishes the work.

Barbara Meikle

Barbara Meikle is an artist who paints the simple world outside of her door in Tesuque, a village on the outskirts of Santa Fe, New Mexico. With each brushstroke she brings alive the charm of the burro at her neighbors, the bird perched on Ruthie, her mini-burro, or the horses racing in the pasture. The view down the arroyo, or the mountains in the distance come alive in vivid shades of pink and purple, ocher and brown. Stunningly colorful clouds become a focal point of the New Mexico desert landscape, giving drama and brillance to a land some have called brown and drab.

Gilberto Romero

Once upon a time a third generation Santa Fean and his wife raised three beautiful children, teaching them to respect the land, the animals, and the beauty of all that is. One child became a sheriff, bringing order. Another became an attorney, bringing justice. The third, steeped in the traditions of his culture, loved art and creating with his hands. His name is Gilberto Romero, and Pippin Meikle Fine Art is proud to represent this extraordinary young man.

Guilloume

Guilloume is a master of "Bolismo," a self-described, emotion-filled style using modest forms, textures and shading to portray the vast range of human feelings—from the simple visages of routine daily interactions to those highly complex expressions reflecting the depths and heights of the earthly experience with all its joy, afflictions, hopes and fears. A Guilloume canvas is a dreamscape of memory and emotion where angles observe, as human forms move gracefully through the most mundane of tasks.

Robert Burt

Abandoned adobe churches, deserted city streets from small towns in Mexico and South America - long, rolling, country roads disappearing into the distance - each scene conveying a sense of peace and solitude, while at the same time, Robert Burt's bold use of color and strong compositional elements convey the intense beauty he sees in the world around him. Burt's paintings invite the viewer on a journey to explore a world that lies far from the hustle of everyday life.
