Eckhart Tolle said, “All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.” We asked two artists for their thoughts about this statement.
Living in the quietness of the mountains in Santa Fe gives me the environment that I need. Starting early in the morning and looking at what I created yesterday puts my mind into an inner stillness that erases the outer world. Before I know it, the hours have passed. I can leave the studio and when I come back I feel I am seeing the work for the first time.
Naida Seibel
Seibel has shown her work in Santa Fe for the past twenty-five years. Her work was last exhibited in March, 2008 at New Concept Gallery in a group show, The Artist Against the War. Seibel will have a one-person show in July at New Concept Gallery, 610 Canyon Road, Santa Fe. Opening reception on Friday, July 18, from 5 to 7 pm.
As an artist who studied with Josef Albers, I appreciate both knowing (visual acuity) and unknowing, and recognize that it is my intuition that brings forward beauty, magic, and meaning. The statement above perfectly describes the essence of painting, and the magic that flows when one lets go and allows the unknowing to come through.
