American Airlines and Delta have recently announced plans to provide direct flight service between Santa Fe and Dallas, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Daily flights will be provided by American Eagle, partner to American Airlines and Express Jet, partner to Delta starting in mid-December. The airlines will use Embraer ERJ series jets seating between 44 to 50 passengers.
The new air service gives visitors to Northern New Mexico a new option to enter the region while bypassing the Albuquerque International Sunport, an hour south of Santa Fe. With Delta flights to Salt Lake City and American flights to Dallas, Santa Fe air travelers have access to hubs for two of the nation’s largest air carriers without a drive to Albuquerque.
The Santa Fe Municipal Airport has no additional capacity for more airlines beyond the new service offered by Delta and American Airlines because of limited terminal space and security screening area capacity. American and Delta airlines commitments to service Santa Fe Municipal Airport represent the first commercial jet flights into the airport in several years. Commercial jet service at the airport currently is limited to flights between Santa Fe and Denver on Great Lakes Airlines.
