We asked two artists about the place of ritual in their work.Their responses follow:
My work is all about ritual. It is a constant observance of the human condition and experience, past and present. The work is ritual—it is a performance each day from its conceptualization to completion. It is my lifestyle and method. There are no boundaries and it is an endless path. It is a sacred ritual—the awareness, the dance, and the song—all in the language of paint. Roseta Santiago
Having hovered at the precipice of life and death, I express my gratitude and wonder at the earth’s diversity through my work as dancer, choreographer, and teacher. I believe in the original role of dance as functional ritual, and walk into its deep-hearted canyon to invoke transformation, in realms that include the personal, societal, environmental, and spiritual.
