Governor Bill Richardson today announced that Spanish film company, Origen PC, committed to explore the possibility of doing business in New Mexico following a meeting in Madrid.
Origen executives told the Governor they would visit New Mexico in about a month and scout locations for co-production opportunities. They will also look at possibly relocating one of its productions to New Mexico.
“Origen was looking at doing business in North America and its executives were astonished that an American governor would personally meet with them,” said Governor Richardson, who is in Europe this week to recruit new business for New Mexico. “While they were interested in our film incentives, Origen’s executives were especially pleased about the opportunity to do business in New Mexico, given our historical and cultural ties to Spain.”
Governor Richardson met with representatives of six Spanish entertainment companies, as well as the president of Spain’s Film Trade Association. The Governor highlighted New Mexico’s film incentives, our favorable exchange rate and the fact that the state has the most advanced film infrastructure with new studios, trained crews and creative talent.
“We made an aggressive pitch, and our hope is that other Spanish companies will follow Origen and do business in New Mexico,” Governor Richardson said.
Imagen executives told the Governor that they are interested in producing both Spanish and English-language projects in New Mexico.
