Earth and Sky: June 16 - 22

Several important planetary events occur this week. The Summer Solstice on Friday marks the beginning of summer. Both the Sun and Venus enter the sign of Cancer. Mercury turns direct. And there’s a Full Moon in Sagittarius.

With Mercury in direct motion, those miscommunications and annoying problems with electronics and machinery should subside.

The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year.

The Sun moves into the sign of Cancer and for the next four weeks the focus turns to home and family. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which represents the feminine and the nurturing mother. Amma comes to New Mexico, as she does at this time every year. She is the loving Mother, sometimes called “The Hugging Saint,” who gives her loving embrace to anyone who asks. She feeds thousands of people offering free food and drink to all. Graduations are family affairs, honoring the accomplishments of loved ones and bringing the clan together. Taking care of your home, buying or selling real estate is also highlighted.

Jupiter and Sagittarius are strongly emphasized this week, bringing up issues of morality, ethnicity, religion or beliefs. We may have to face issues concerning these things which give us a clearer idea of what we believe and how we see the world.

Monday, June 16th and Tuesday, June 17th

Moon enters Sagittarius

Mars quincunx Uranus

Restless Mars fans the fiery Moon in Sagittarius, creating an air of carelessness. In these next few days impatience could lead to a sudden event which creates a change of circumstances. You may be forced to adjust. The possibility of earthquakes increases with this combination of energies. There could be earthquakes in your personal life, too.

Wednesday, June 18th

Full Moon in Sagittarius

Venus enters Cancer

Venus opposite Pluto

You will feel things deeply; between 3:30 and 4 pm things could get emotionally charged. A concentration of Sagittarius and Jupiter energy causes you to examine your beliefs. What is your subliminal programming and what is really true? Issues of morality, ethnicity and religion may get our attention.

You may face a financial or relationship situation which causes you to decide what is really important. Pare down to essentials and let the rest go.

Venus moves into Cancer and you are motivated by the desire to feel secure and stable. You may feel attached to whatever gives you that sense of comfort and security, wanting to hold on at all costs.

People are more sensitive now and feelings can be hurt more easily. It’s best to adopt a gentle approach in our interactions with others.

Thursday, June 19th

Mercury turns direct

Sun opposes Pluto

Mars opposes Neptune

Since May 26th Mercury has been retrograde and today it turns direct again. Mercury retrograde is an excellent time for re-evaluation: Assess what has transpired and digest it before taking in more. With a new perspective on matters—due to additional information received—you may now feel ready to move forward and apply your findings in the world. It is time to act.

Over the next few days it is possible that someone or something could have a profound impact upon you, and provoke a reaction. You may feel compelled to speak out or respond.

Hidden agendas may be afoot. The tendency to want to believe in some ideal is strong, but all the facts are not known about it. Motives may be unclear. Someone may undermine the situation. A matter you anticipated may fall through.

Friday, June 20th

SUMMER SOLSTICE

Sun enters Cancer

The Sun reaches the farthest point north of the equator today at 6 pm and it enters the sign of Cancer, the crab. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer’s passing moods seem similar to the changing phases of the Moon. Cancer people are very sensitive and emotional, with a fragile and vulnerable heart. Like the crab, the tides of emotion affect them deeply and they pull into their shell when hurt or afraid. Self preservation takes over and it is not easy to get them to come out! The need to feel secure and protected dominates and they will hang on with tenacity. But under that hard shell they are softies, and can be very sentimental. They love their home and family and will strongly protect and care for those in their circle, like a mother bear with her cubs.

George W. Bush has a Sun in Cancer, as does the Dalai Lama. Think about how each man—in his own way—has protected, defended and taken care of his “people.” This tendency of Cancer people plays out on all levels of consciousness.

Saturday, June 21st and Sunday, June 22nd

Moon enters Aquarius

Moon conjunct Chiron

Mars opposite Neptune exact on Saturday

Rather than getting drawn into illusions, stick to the facts. You may find it difficult to stand up for yourself or just feel overwhelmed. The desire to avoid or deny a situation could be tempting. People may not fully divulge their intentions to you. Your desire to want to have things your way may cloud your ability to see what is really going on. You may have to look inside at your own intentions as well.

Take care of your body, it may be more stressed and weakened now. Allergies can flare up. Healing the heart and connecting with your soul is encouraged. Come together with others of like mind and heart. Follow your inspiration and intuition.
