Earth and Sky: June 30 - July 6

We leave behind the month of June and enter July, with Independence Day celebrations and family picnics ahead.

Mars leaves the sign of Leo and for the next 3 weeks will combine forces with Saturn in Virgo. This is a difficult combination of action (Mars) and restriction (Saturn), which can lead to frustration. It’s like driving a car with one foot on the accelerator and one foot on the brake at the same time. There is a purpose for it; it holds us in check. It is meant to get us to consider our responses before reacting impulsively. Response vs. reaction. Yes, it can be frustrating. However, amazing achievement is possible by using a slow and patient approach. The potential to work long and hard is available. Rather than forcing through something quickly, pay attention to details. Having a focus and clear definition of what you want will help.

There is an opportunity at the New Moon on Wednesday to make important new commitments. This New Moon is called a Cazimi Moon, and is considered very beneficial in helping to support a new intention or idea you may wish to implement.

Be careful of excesses in the middle of the week, and use a reasonable amount of discipline. If you are trying to save money, it is not a good time to go shopping. You may find yourself overindulging and spending more than planned.

It looks like a fast-paced weekend, and not a time for boring activities. Enjoy something different and exciting.

Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1

Moon enters Gemini

Mars trine Pluto

Mars enters Virgo

The extra push or motivation to overhaul some area in your life continues. Take advantage of the energy available Sunday and Monday for acting upon those reforms. Monday morning it is time to pay attention and focus, but after 10 am things loosen up.

Mars enters Virgo on Tuesday. For the next 49 days you will be motivated to pay attention to detail, competence, and problem solving. Old ideas and perspectives need an adjustment. There is a desire to make practical improvements upon situations, including health and diet. Mars in Virgo gives the ability to master techniques and is very task oriented. However, there is a challenge to all this practicality today and tomorrow. A temptation to overindulge may be strong.

Wednesday, July 2

New Moon in Cancer

Venus opposite Jupiter

The New Moon occurs at 8:18 pm this evening. A period of opportunity for making important new commitments is available one half hour before and after the New Moon. The July New Moon is very beneficial and powerful. You can use this one hour period to start something if you really want it to succeed. Set a goal or intention.

Today could bring a pleasant experience in your relationship or just an enjoyable day. Be careful of excesses. Personal indulgence could have you going overboard with food, drink or purchases.

Thursday, July 3

Moon conjunct Venus

Tender feelings early this morning can sensitize you to the needs of others or vice versa. A peaceful, tranquil beginning to your day is optimal. Be gentle.

Friday, July 4

Independence Day

Mercury square Uranus

Moon enters Leo

News and ideas come in quickly, and you may find it difficult to keep up with today’s brisk tempo. Statements spoken carelessly—rather than thinking things through—could lead to regrets later. Unexpected encounters with people could bring new information and change your perceptions. Let yourself move into new situations and stimulate your mind. Break out of old patterns. Use creative energy today. Express yourself; make the effort to dress in your own unique style. Get artistic and dramatic. If it’s different or unusual, flaunt it.

Family picnics could have you feeling protective and appreciative of your family, while others may feel obligation and resentment. Open your heart and don’t let pride get in the way.

Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6

Mercury trine Neptune

Venus trine Uranus

This weekend is not a time for boring activities. Escape the mundane and do something different! Transcend your rational intellect and open up to new ideas and people. Seek out the company of like-minded or unusual people; exchange your ideas, visions and feelings. This is an excellent weekend for an artistic or spiritual gathering or just enjoying the camaraderie of friends. A sense of the mystical is felt; stay in that dreamy state as long as possible. The imagination is stirred and with it new images and ideas may emerge.
