Robin Branham

Born in 1961, Robin Branham spent her childhood in Chicago, Illinois. In 1968 her father, Robert Branham, moved the family to the California mountain coastline of Malibu. An accomplished fine artist, Robert achieved early success, including a direct commission from the Vatican in Rome. He has since led a long, varied and diverse career as an illustrator, consultant, and conceptual design artist for the motion picture industry. It is this work that brought the Branham family to California.

Robin grew up inspired by her father’s artwork and has become an accomplished artist in her own right. Her work has been published in Art in America and she has won 5 awards at the Wiseman Museum Show in Malibu. Robin’s work has hung in the San Diego Museum of Art and her work is included in the collections of the Sony Corporation, the Leanin’ Tree Museum in Colorado, Mr. R. J. Allen’s touring museum collection based in Chicago, Illinois; and the EST&G Collection in California. She has exhibited with acclaimed artists such as Christo and Kostabi.

Her technique involves the application of multiple layers of paint to the canvas. From the layered paint she fashions abstract shapes and various textures with a myriad of colors to create the form and composition. Each painting, whether on canvas, wood, or heavy paper is worked and reworked numerous times in creating the final piece. Some pieces take years to complete. The process results in the decadent surface which characterizes her work. Subject matter ranges from pure abstract to figurative and still life compositions. Her creations are eye-catching examples of mystery and wonder that continue to spark the imagination and excite the senses.

Robin Branham received a Bachelors of Fine Art with a minor in Gallery Exhibition and Design in 1989 from San Diego State University.

What is most important to me as an artist is the process of my art and what is going on inside me while I am creating. I am also very concerned about the quality of a finished piece, including how each brush stroke is applied, the richness of color, array of texture and the overall composition of the piece.
