Since 1989 when she published her first article, Blouin has been writing about the outdoors. After five guidebooks, including Road Biking New Mexico, she now freelances for publications like Backpacker, Trail Runner, Albuquerque Journal and Kids New Mexico.
Writing often leads to editing work and vice versa. Blouin started in 1991 with content editing and revision work for Menasha Ridge Press. An in-house position with Falcon Publishing led to freelance work with Globe-Pequot. Currently she manages projects for Countryman Press several times a year.
Throughout these almost-20 years, Blouin has always been a professional guide. First on rivers, then rock climbing, hiking, and cycling. It’s part of who she is. When old and gray and 80-something, she’ll probably be in front of a tour bus still guiding—maybe in Yellowstone or Glacier—interpreting the park’s attractions.
After a leadership training course with Adventure Cycling last September, Blouin decided to take her writing, guiding and love of cycle touring and put them all in one basket. She's two wheel traveling as much as possible, often working with other women to teach them the secrets of the self-contained. Read some of her cycling journals by visiting her web site.
