- Earth and Sky: May 5 - 11

This week begins with a supermoon on Monday May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. A new moon which occurs when it is closest to the earth is called a supermoon. As a result, we have a couple of weeks with intense weather patterns and high tides. Since the moon affects the rhythms of our bodies, there can be high emotional tides as well as those in the oceans! This new moon is in the sign of Taurus, and areas of our life affected could be self worth issues, self reliance, finances and possessions, survival and values.
On May 8th the ongoing meteor showers peak. They can be seen in the hours just before dawn.

- Earth and Sky: April 28 - May 3

Venus is visible as the Morning Star shining brightly in the sky just before dawn. This is the last week to see her before the sun’s rays combine with this planet, blocking her from view. We will have to wait for her to reappear as the Evening Star in July. Meteor showers this weekend can be seen easily, with a dark night sky as the Moon becomes a sliver. Look for them in the early morning hours. There are two different showers that coincide and peak around May 4th and 5th. The new moon on May 5th is a SuperMoon. This is a term used when a new moon occurs at the time the moon is closest to...

- Innkeeper Gradually Converting Her Small Hotels to Environmentally Friendly Operations

Baby steps, Carolyn Lee is convinced, is the best path to sustained environmental friendliness at her small Santa Fe hotels.
Over the past year, the Santa Fe businesswoman has gradually upped the green ante at two of her downtown properties,
Hacienda Nicholas and The Madeleine Inn, using a piecemeal approach of a water-conserving washing machine here and cloth bin liner there.
"Basically, now every time I go to buy a new appliance or product, everything is done as an eco-friendly purchase," Lee said.
Lee has been running Hacienda Nicholas and The Madeleine Inn, located near each other at...

- The Future is Bright

What could the silver lining be as we face the daunting issue of global warming and our carbon emission increase?
Consider that the City of Santa Fe faced an overwhelming water crisis seven years ago. We used an average of 140 gallons per person per day in the year 2001. Our average use dropped to 106 gallons per person per day in 2006—a 32% reduction in water use over the course of 5 years. This change came about mostly because of creative solutions implemented by a community of aware individuals. Our water problems are not over. Nor is global warming an easy fix. However, with...

Take a long hot salt water bath, swim or exercise to release emotional tensions that have accumulated over the weekend. Clear out and prepare for a high energy work week.
Earth Day is Tuesday, a day we focus upon ourselves as a global community. We show respect for every form of life; human, animal and Nature. Everything is connected.
For the Eastern Orthodox Church, Good Friday begins on the 25th and Sunday is Easter. Millions of people will be going to church and focusing upon Christ’s love and compassion for humanity.

- Holistic Healing

Once upon a time I though Holistic Healing was a marketing ploy for hacks dispensing essential oils. That was BMC: Before My Conversion. I have a traditional doctor, a “western doctor,” as they become known once you understand the difference between a prescription and a manifestation, but he’s just there for physicals and the very occasional round of antibiotics. For everything else there’s an alternative therapy. Holistic Healing in a nutshell is all about treating the whole person. It’s also about energy; moving it, circulating it and releasing it. You just have to go outside and stand in...

- The Environment: Our Responsibility

The environment has become a hot topic amongst countries, lawmakers, and local neighborhoods. It has become such a controversial subject that few can agree on its effects, affects, and what measures we must take in order to preserve it. Fortunately for us young people, the environment will soon be our responsibility. Unfortunately, it is also our responsibility to obtain accurate information to create an environment that we can enjoy, as well as future generations. I recently interviewed Taylor Selby of Earth Care International, an organization committed to informing and helping youth care...
