The 25th annual Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival is just around the corner. From November 8 – 10, 2024, stop by the festival to see how artists use their creativity to combine art and environmental awareness at the largest and oldest recycled art market in the United States.

The weekend begins on Friday evening with the Trash Fashion & Costume Contest, along with the opening of the art market, food vendors, and both adult and student juried art exhibits.

On Saturday and Sunday, attendees can peruse the exhibits, grab a bite to eat, find one-of-a-kind gifts, and participate in recycled art activities designed for all ages, offering hands-on creativity with upcycled materials.

If you’re interested in being a vendor, you can still register for a spot on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival Details

This year’s festival promises to be a fun experience for attendees of all ages, with a lineup of more than 100 artists from New Mexico and beyond. Artists from states such as Colorado, Arizona, and New York will bring their creations to Santa Fe, offering original pieces for sale at the art market. From jewelry made from vintage tin cans to impressive scrap metal sculptures, these artists transform what others might consider trash into something extraordinary. Each artwork at the festival must be made with at least 75% recycled materials, emphasizing the importance of reuse and resourcefulness.

Juried Exhibit

One of the festival’s main attractions is the juried art exhibits, which include both adult and student categories. These exhibits provide an opportunity to see some of the most innovative and skillfully crafted pieces on display, showcasing how recycled materials can be used in unexpected and artistic ways.

If you’re an artist and still want to participate, there’s not much time left to apply for the juried exhibit, with the deadline set for Friday, October 18.

Eco-Conscious Family-Friendly Activities

For those more interested in hands-on experiences, the festival offers a variety of family-friendly, make-and-take art activities throughout the weekend. These activities allow children and adults to explore their creativity while learning about recycling and the artistic potential of everyday materials. The event also serves as a fantastic opportunity for holiday shoppers looking for eco-conscious gifts, with one-of-a-kind pieces available at the art market. Whether you’re searching for a unique gift or want to appreciate the artistry behind these upcycled works, there’s something for everyone.

Recycle Santa Fe Influence

The Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival goes beyond being an art showcase. Over the years, it has become a significant economic development tool for emerging and established artists. The festival’s influence helps local creators gain recognition and offers a platform to display their skills, helping to support and sustain the artistic community.

Resourceful Santa Fe is a year-round festival project for artists seeking inspiration or materials. This creative reuse center, open every Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., offers a wide range of supplies and encourages community members to donate items for repurposing. Whether looking for affordable art supplies or seeking ways to contribute to sustainable art, Resourceful Santa Fe provides a dynamic space to explore possibilities. The center’s mission is to divert waste from landfills by redistributing discarded items to artists and others who can put them to good use.

Celebrate sustainability

The Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival is more than just an event; it celebrates creativity, sustainability, and community. Whether you’re an artist, an eco-conscious shopper, or simply appreciate the innovative use of materials, this festival is the place to be this November. Don’t miss the chance to see how discarded items are transformed into beautiful, meaningful pieces of art — and maybe even find inspiration for your creative projects.

Make plans to attend and see why this festival continues to attract thousands of visitors year after year!
