New jazz and Sgt Pepper

Cat Tracks Week of 3/12/18

Well it’s only/already March and possibly the CD of the year was just dropped into my lap. “United We Swing- Best of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Galas with the Wynton Marsalis Septet.” From live concerts at the Lincoln Center from 2003-07 we have a star studded guest line-up. Bluesy and jazzy tunes from Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Lyle Lovett, Ray Charles, Jimmy Buffett, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks and more. Some great tunes from people you might not expect in that setting.

For this week on The Beatles- All Jazzed Up we feature Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The idea of featuring Beatles albums came to me last year when I got the San Francisco String Trio CD “May I Introduce to You” as they do the entire album. Thought it would be a great feature by itself but then thought why not do other albums. We have about 250 jazz versions of Beatles tunes. Obviously they have been a major musical influence everywhere.  Anyway, this Tuesday night at 7 we’ll play jazz versions of Sgt Pepper in order featuring a lot of the San Francisco String Trio. The only song we won’t play is Within You, Without You- with apologies to George Harrison. I hope you’re enjoying our jazz journey of Beatles albums. Would love to know how you like it.
