" 'There’s no better way to celebrate the state this Centennial year than by getting out and exploring'..."

Get the Picture, we got it, now it’s your turn. Join in the fun with the New Mexico Tourism Department's Centennial "Get the Picture” photo challenge. Match your knowledge of New Mexico and your wits to find 100 vintage photos from around our state.

The Centennial is the perfect time to learn about New Mexico’s past, travel the state and discover what our beautiful state has to offer. In doing so, you could win $10,000. Go to or the Tourism Department Facebook page, and create a profile. Next, click on the Gallery icon and review the 100 vintage photos. Find those locations, re-create the photograph and upload it to your profile. You only need to upload one photo to be eligible but each approved photo gives you one more chance to win the $10,000 grand prize. The more photos you upload the more chances you get!

People are loving the challenge. Here are some recent quotes from the Tourism Department's Facebook page:

Amy Buckman: "I'm struck by all of these old photos. My father, a noted New Mexico photographer for decades ,would have been able to identify all of them, I'm quite sure. I wish he was still here to do just that."

Adriana Gallegos: "Love this idea. Great way to learn New Mexico's AMAZING history."

The photos are scattered throughout the state, making it easy for you to get started wher ever you live. Do you know where there is a famous church in Taos? How about some historical buildings in downtown Albuquerque? There are also a few historic forts in southern New Mexico. Find it, shoot it and upload it. "Get the Picture" is your ticket to summer fun. And you may win $10,000. Go to or to get started.
