"Judges arrive to check out Santa Fe, a finalist in the Best of Food category"

From a Santa Fe Convention and Visitors Bureau press release...

The mayor’s opening remarks for the 2012 Santa Fe Bandstand at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 5 will include a Santa Fe welcome for the Best of the Road, RoadBros team.

The two-man team of travel bloggers will be in Santa Fe to judge the city in the Best Food category for the Rand McNally/USA Today sponsored Best of the Road competition. They will be featured guests and introduced to the city at the opening of the summer’s bandstand series. The Travel Channel and Rand McNally RV will also be in town covering the Santa Fe activities.

Current plans have the RoadBros, plus the Travel Channel video crew, starting off with dinner and a show at the La Casa Sena Cantina Wednesday evening, followed by dessert in the La Fonda Bell Tower bar experiencing the sunset and fireworks. Choice Hotels is an event sponsor so the team will be staying at Santa Fe Comfort Suites for the first night.

On Thursday the morning starts with breakfast at the Pantry then a tram tour of the city by Custom Tours by Clarice. A culinary walking tour guided by the Santa Fe School of Cooking is next and then it’s lunch and a margarita primer at Maria’s. The RoadBros will have been traveling since June 16 and should be ready for some pampering at the spa at Hotel Santa Fe that afternoon. After a lodging change to La Posada it’s off for local beer and pizza at Marble Brewery followed by an official welcome to the city at the opening night of the Santa Fe Bandstand. A Best of the Road cocktail competition is next with three of the city’s finest barmen competing and the day wraps up with dinner at Coyote Café.

Friday begins with breakfast at Tia Sohpia’s then a brief trail ride at Bishop’s Lodge, some free time to explore the city, and lunch at The Compound. After lunch a guided walk of Canyon Road takes the boys back into town where they head off to explore the Santa Fe Chocolate Trail. The evening begins on the patio at Luminaria followed by dinner at Restaurant Martin.

A farewell breakfast made with farm fresh ingredients at the Santa Fe Farmers Market and prepared by Chef Matt Yohalem of Il Piatto will leave Mike and Brian with fond memories of Santa Fe.

Mike Shubic and Brian Cox have been eating their way across the country and will have already visited four of the six Best Food finalist cities before arriving in Santa Fe on July 4.
