SOFA West Pulls the Plug on 2012 Show

SOFA West Santa Fe, a showcase of contemporary decorative arts and design held at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, has been canceled for 2012, according to event organizers.

"(We) regret to announce as of today that due to insufficient participating galleries and loss of key local dealers they must cancel SOFA WEST: Santa Fe 2012," read the message from SOFA publicity staff.

The event was scheduled to take place at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center, August 2-5. SOFA West opened in Santa Fe in 2009.

"Santa Fe was a wonderful venue in which to present SOFA for the last three years.  We will miss being a part of the cultural calendar in 2012," wrote Mark Lyman, founding director of SOFA and the president of the Chicago-based The Art Fair Company, which facilitates the event. "We will review opportunities in 2013 with hopes that the art market will improve and give confidence to the required galleries to return.  Art fairs exist because galleries make sales and, unfortunately, there weren't enough galleries anticipating those sales in Santa Fe."

More info to come.
