Veterans Day Letter From Mayor Coss | - November 5, 2012

"Please, join me on November 11th to honor our veterans"

Dear Santa Feans,

We all recognize the service and sacrifice of our veterans. This year on Veterans Day, I am asking that all residents of Santa Fe join me in doing a little more to honor our vets.  For many years now, the city has partnered with the state’s Department of Veterans Affairs and the Santa Fe Chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars to hold a Veterans Parade and Ceremony. This is a wonderful community event and every year I find myself wishing that more community members would join in. This year on November 11, the elections will be over and we will be looking forward to the holidays with our family and friends, but our veterans will still need and deserve our thanks, our respect, and our support.

That’s why this year, I am asking every individual and every organization in Santa Fe and the region to honor our veterans and participate in the many Veterans Day events scheduled throughout the city. Santa Fe’s Veterans Day Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at the fire station on Murales Road, travels to the Plaza, and ends at the Bataan Memorial with the ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m.

New Mexicans have a proud heritage. Our veterans have served bravely and unselfishly in every conflict our country has ever been in (and that includes the Revolutionary War). Today, proud, patriotic New Mexicans are coming home from Iraq and we pray for our fellow citizens still serving in Afghanistan. Veterans Day is a chance to say thanks and to honor their service as we commit to honor our obligation to those who served with health care for them and their families, with education and with jobs.

Enlist your family, your friends and your co-workers. Tell the members of your clubs, unions, associations, and parishes--this is important. Please, join me on November 11th to honor our veterans.
