President’s Day is just around the corner, and that means a long weekend for locals and visitors alike. Whether you live here full time or are driving in for the weekend, it is the perfect time to get yourself and the kids out of the house. Here are some events happening around Santa Fe to help shake off the winter blues, and get the kids engaged in the community.

Friday, February 14th:

10:00am-11:00am: Garden Sprouts: Pre K Activities @ Santa Fe Botanical Garden. If your little Valentine happens to be 3-5 years old and enjoys stories and dirt this might just be for you, bonus it’s free!

10:00am-4:00pm: Community Day @ Santa Fe Botanical Garden

After some relaxing stories and hopefully dirt, stick around the Botanical Garden and enjoy their Community Day free to all New Mexicans and students.

3:30pm-4:30pm: MUSH! Stories from The Iditarod with Karen Land @ Southside Public Library. Come enjoy stories about sled racing and meet an actual sled-dog, Noggin. It’s free to the public.

Saturday, February 15th:

8:00am- 4:00pm: El Museo Cultural Mercado @ El Museo

Come and spend your time and money on some fantastic folk art, collectables,

Memorabilia, tribal and global fine art.

8:00am-1:00pm: Santa Fe Farmers Market @ The Rail Yard

Enjoy the fresh wares of local farmers, and get the kids some healthy snacks

9:00am-11:30am: Great Backyard Bird Count @  Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve. Enjoy our local wetlands, and look at some amazing birds.Free to the public.  Be sure to arrive on time. Gates lock at 9:10am.

9:30am-11:30am: Santa Fe Family Programs: Clouds @ The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Explore different shapes and textures of clouds and make some mixed media art in the process. Great for ages 4-12, and free for the whole family!

10:00am-5:00pm: New Mexico Artisans Market Santa Fe @ The Santa Fe Convention Center. Check out amazing handcrafted gifts from New Mexican Artisans.

10:00am-12:00pm: Love Your River Day @ Frenchy’s Park, hosted by Santa Fe Watershed Association. Come spend an hour or two beautifying our river and arroyos, and teach the kids a valuable lesson about being nature’s custodians.

11:00am-3pm: Live Music w/ JJ & The Hooligans @ Ski Santa Fe

Head up the hill, enjoy some snow and live music.

11:00am-1:00pm: The Trains are Running @ The Santa Fe Children’s Museum

For those little stir crazy train enthusiasts, a working model train exhibit.

1:00pm-2:00pm: Science Saturday @ The Santa Fe Children’s Museum

Enjoy fun science experiments for all ages! Don’t forget to check out their Stargazer event with pop up planetarium, happening all day.

1:00pm-3:00pm:  Family Pottery Class @ Paseo Pottery

Be brave and take a 2 hour family pottery class taught by professional ceramic artists. Hey! you may find a new skill, or at least come home with your own unique piece, and they claim libations are involved. Cheers.

10:00am-12:00pm: Slime Time @ Meow Wolf. For just 25$ Let the trained professionals guide your kids through making their own custom Slime! Because let’s face it… those Slime kits rarely turn out all right. After slime making enjoy a trip through the House of Eternal Return.

10:00am-5:00pm: New Mexico Artisans Market Santa Fe @ The Santa Fe Convention Center. Check out amazing handcrafted gifts from New Mexican Artisans.

2:00pm-4:00pm: Activist Kids! @ Southside  Public Library. A place where youth activists of all ages and their caregivers can meet, talk, organize, and take action about the issues they care about. Come connect to other young people to change the world!

Monday, February 17th:

8:00am-4:00pm: No School Art Day @ Dragonfly Art Studio. Here is an option if you need a place for the kids on this day off from school, an all day open art studio. Check out their website for price and registration information.

9:00am- 3:30pm: School Holiday Camp: President’s Day @ Santa Fe Children’s Museum. Got to work? Need a place for the kids? Join educators from the Randall Davey Audubon Center and the Santa Fe Children’s Museum for nature day camps, ages 5-12. Check out their site for prices and registration, extend care is available.

4:30pm-6:00pm: Tabletop Game Time @ La Farge Public Library.This event takes place every Monday. Come and enjoy some fun board games provided by the library, and you can even bring your own.

Don’t see anything that strikes your fancy? That’s ok, this is Santa Fe, try one of the city’s dozens of parks, and playgrounds open from 6:00am-10:00pm every day. When all else fails you can always just take a hike.
