“Summer events at the Ranch of the Swallows...”
At El Rancho de las Golondrinas (The Ranch of the Swallows) summer is in full bloom with three upcoming festivals.
The Santa Fe Wine Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, July 7 and 8 from noon to 6 p.m. Come taste and buy all of your favorite New Mexico wines. Though I am currently in France, where wine is king but at a princely price, I am reminded that, centuries ago, there was more wine being made in the land that would become New Mexico than in all of California. Much of the root stock that fueled the growth of the West Coast wine industry came from New Mexico. And, in a delightful turn about, Rich Verunni, general manager of Bishop's Lodge Ranch Resort & Spa, has returned the favor – bringing back root stock from California that was originally from Bishop's Lodge and he now serves a delightful red from those vines in the Lodge's restaurant.
July also brings another one of my favorite events, the ¡Viva Mexico! Celebration on July 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This colorful event is a partnership with the Mexican Consulate of Albuquerque and celebrates our amazing neighbor to the south. This year's festival will bring a stunning 30 + person carnival dance group to the ranch, all the way from the State of Tlaxcala, plus Cornisa 20, the famous Mariachi clowns from Guanajuato. There is lots of great food, mariachis, piñatas and fun for children.
Herb & Lavender Fair
The Golondrinas Herb & Lavender Fair again brings these wonderful fragrances and tastes to the ranch on July 28 and 29. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be lectures, hands-on activities, tours of the gardens and great shopping from vendors!
This is the same weekend as Traditional Spanish Market on the Plaza. You should plan to visit both.
