“New series showcases videos produced by and for arts students…”
Arts Schools Network (ASN) and Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) announce the launch of Life in the Arts, a student-produced video series about real people, places and practices in the arts. SFUAD is a sponsor of the series.
During the program’s first season, students at ASN member schools will produce a total of nine 30-minute episodes featuring art students and their work, as well as interviews with alumni and behind-the-scenes tours of professional arts venues. The project gives students the chance to showcase their schools and to cultivate and display their talents in filmmaking, script writing and theatre.
“We are pleased to join ASN in this initiative to give art students across the nation a rare opportunity to showcase their work for the benefit of their peers,” said Larry Hinz, president of Santa Fe University of Art and Design. “Developing a career in the arts requires commitment and support and we are pleased to partner with ASN to nurture the talents and creativity of young aspiring artists.”
“Life in the Arts exemplifies the spirit of ASN by sharing knowledge and experience among member schools and students,” said Kristy Callaway, executive director of ASN. “Having the support of a leading art school like Santa Fe University of Art and Design brings much valued knowledge and enthusiasm to this project.”
ASN member schools submitting videos during the first season of Life in the Arts include Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.; The Fine Arts Center in Greenville, S.C.; Harrison School for the Arts in Lakeland, Fla.; Idaho Arts Charter School in Nampa, Idaho; L.A. County High School of the Arts in Los Angeles, Calif.; New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in New Orleans, La.; Oakland School for the Arts in Oakland, Calif.; and Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana, Calif. and Santa Fe University of Art and Design in Santa Fe.
The first two episodes will be available online to the public, with the remainder exclusive to ASN members and select audiences. The first season of the program launched on October 19 and runs through December, 2011 and the second season will run from February to May 2012, with additional videos made by other member schools.
