Casinos Love Cinco de Mayo - April 23, 2012

"Camel Rock Casino and Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino hosts live music, dances, food, giveaways and more on May 5"

Casinos don’t need too much of a reason to have a special event or promotion and the Cinco de Mayo celebration gives them, especially those in northern New Mexico, a perfect opportunity to attract a good chunk of their customer base.

Cinco de Mayo---the 5th of May---is a significant day in Mexican history.  On that day in 1862, a Mexican army of 4,000 defeated an invading French army twice its size and our neighbors to the south have been beaming ever since.  Ironically, due in part to the commercial efforts of beer companies and others looking for a marketing hook to the largest growing ethnic group in the United States, the day has become bigger in the U.S. as it has become a day to celebrate Mexican culture and ancestry.

With so many locals of Hispanic heritage and a growing population of Mexican nationals, at least two local casinos will hold events to celebrate the day and to attract crowds to enjoy the available food, drink and gaming.

Camel Rock Casino will host events the entire weekend.  On Friday, May 4, the group Rudimentz will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight in the Rock Showroom.  The Saturday, May 5th dance will feature Darren Cordova y Calor featuring Darren Lee and Dynette Marie.  The event starts at 9 p.m. and will last until 1 a.m.   The Reflections provide the dance music on Sunday evening, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  And, to add to the festivities, mariachis will perform on the casino floor throughout the weekend.  Player’s club members can earn 5-times points with giveaways planned throughout the weekend as well.

Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino will have their Cinco de Mayo event on Friday, May 4, 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the Tewa Ballroom.   Tickets are $15 and you must be at least 21 years of age to attend.   Three bands will provide music---Perfeccion, Karizzma and Los Blue Ventures.  Tickets can be purchased at the casino cage or
