Reggae Music takes over New Mexico this month
The King of Reggae Music, Bob Marley was born in the month of February. In honor of his global impact, his birth is celebrated all month long around the world. New Mexico will be host to a heap of reggae events all month long. Here's my comprehensive list of events worth checking out.....
......it all kicks off on February 1st with The Return of The Reggae Party with Blu 102.9's own DJ Dynamite Sol and The BoomRoots Collective featuring Mister Kali, Circumference 360 and AezRock plus special guests. BoomRoots is known for its distinctive blend of Jamaican funk with New Mexico soul. Tickets are on sale now at the Lensic Box office, 988-1234 or ticketssantafe.org. The show begins at 8 p.m. at the Santa Fe Farmers' Market Pavilion. $20 general admission; $10 with pass.
This event is part of the 10-day Santa Fe Winter Fiesta, held January 27 through February 5, offers an exciting array of concerts, parties, culinary experiences, comedy, dining, shopping, hotel and ski discounts and more to help you beat the winter blues!This is the second annual Winter Fiesta, and the schedule is packed full of fun events for everyone, whether you're a snow bird, a music lover, a foodie or a shopping hound. February 4th DJ SAFIYAH takes over The Matador in Santa Fe with his mix of reggae, world music and tunes you will likely hear nowhere else. 10pm. No Cover. 21 and over
Next up......in Albuquerque on Feb 10th at the Moonlight Lounge it's a Bob Marley Birthday Bash with LIONHEART SOUNDS from the Bay Area, joined by two of the West Coast's top reggae artists MESSENJAH SELAH and LUV FYAH plus local heavyweights MYSTIC VISION, MISTER KALI, Jemez Pueblo's WALATOWA MASSIVE and RAS ELIJAH TAFARI, all backed inna Soundsystem style by Lionheart Sounds own Peter Lionheart. Back in Albuquerque on Feb 15th at the Sunshine Theater comes one of the top-selling American reggae acts of the times, REBELUTION! The El Rey Theater in Albuquerque will host a Tribute To The King of Reggae with THE ITALS, SISTER CAROL and MISTER KALI with THE BOOMROOTS COLLECTIVE on Friday February 24th. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets available at various outlets.
Saturday February 25th The Tribute To The King of Reggae continues, this time THE ITALS will perform alongside MISTER KALI and THE BOOMROOTS COLLECTIVE at The KTAO Solar Center in Taos. Doors open at 6pm. Tickets available at various outlets.
And word on the street says..........1990's New York hip-hop/reggae legend JAMALSKI will be performing alongside BROTHERHOOD SOUNDSYSTEM on this same night, Saturday February 25th at The Moonlight Lounge in Albuquerque.......More info on this as soon as I get it......
