Good Vibrations

"Making love the ultimate vibration gives you some power and control over your destiny..."

The Beach Boys sang about it. Thaddeus Golas wrote about it (in The Lazy Man’s Guide to Enlightenment). Quantum Physics modernized it (summarized adeptly by Amit Goswmai in God Is Not Dead). Hermes supposedly orated about it and The Kybalion “axiomized” it (as one of “The Seven Hermetic Principles”). As my “kick-off” blog with our TransitionsMedia participation on Santafe.com, I decided to briefly engage what William Walker Atkinson codified as “The Cosmic Law of Change.” So, it’s all about vibration and change!

Vibrations, good or bad, underlie everything in existence. All life is vibrating, pulsating to different rhythms and configurations. Mastering our understanding and actions in the field of “all that is” vibrating can result in us having more control and creative ability to navigate through these rapidly changing times, in the now! In effect we can be or are the creators of “good vibrations,” and their opposite.

When we renamed our predecessor radio show Cosmosis to Transitions in 1991 (and later to Transitions Radio Magazine) we assembled what would now in contemporary marketing terminology be called a “focus group.” Debra Bluestone (many thanks) led the way and the majority of those polled agreed that since change is a constant, the name Transitions would never go out of fashion. I liked Cosmosis very much, albeit a bit esoteric(the blending of Cosmos and Osmosis, representing liquid passing through a permeable membrane to come into balance): But, we were being projected on too often as a “New Age” show while our intention was to broaden the scope of conversation and music.

Apparently the great teachings of change had preceded my understanding at the time (even though I acquiesced to the name change); however, hidden grace prevailed. Given the wisdom of another two decades, I can now more deeply appreciate and better live “The Cosmic Law of Change.” Furthermore, the Kybalion, describes a complimentary law; the third of seven Hermetic Principles as “The Principle of Vibration.”

Here’s a quote from the book, which by the way will be discussed on our July 24th, TRM program:

This principle embodies the truth that “everything is in motion”; "everything vibrates"; "nothing is at rest"; facts which Modern Science endorses, and which each new scientific discovery tends to verify. And yet this Hermetic Principle was enunciated thousands of years ago, by the Masters of Ancient Egypt. This Principle explains that the differences between different manifestations of Matter, Energy, Mind, and even Spirit, result largely from varying rates of Vibration. From THE ALL, which is Pure Spirit, down to the grossest form of Matter, all is in vibration – the higher the vibration, the higher the position in the scale. The vibration of Spirit is at such an infinite rate of intensity and rapidity that it is practically at rest – just as a rapidly moving wheel seems to be motionless. And at the other end of the scale, there are gross forms of matter whose vibrations are so low as to seem at rest. Between these poles, there are millions upon millions of varying degrees of vibration. From corpuscle and electron, atom and molecule, to worlds and universes, everything is in vibratory motion. This is also true on the planes of energy and force (which are but varying degrees of vibration); and even on to the spiritual planes. An understanding of this Principle, with the appropriate formulas, enables Hermetic students to control their own mental vibrations as well as those of others. The Masters also apply this Principle to the conquering of Natural phenomena, in various ways. “He who understands the Principle of Vibration, has grasped the scepter of power,” says one of the old writers.[1]

To simplify this set of teachings, so that understanding them, then living them in a natural, peaceful way is paramount. I call on Thaddeus Golas to amplify the “Hermetics.” Writing in 1972, at the apex of the last great social revolution and still evolving from the sixties of “peace, love and rock & roll,” he says:

The universe is an infinite harmony of vibrating beings in an elaborate range of expansion-contraction ratios, frequency modulations, and so forth.

There is a particular set of feelings and ideas that goes with every variation, every combination, every vibration level…What we are
after is to isolate some basic attitudes that will recover awareness of our freedom to move around in this maze – or go straight to the top.

What we need to remember is that there is nobody here but us chickens. The entire universe is made of beings just like ourselves. Every particle in every atom is a live being. Every molecule or cell is a tribe of beings. Energy is a large number of us vibrating together. Space is an infinite number of our brothers and sisters in perfect bliss.

There is no important difference between live and dead matter, since both are made up of live entities. Not only is mass convertible into energy, but energy is convertible into space, and vice versa. It is our own withdrawal from awareness, our own mass condition, that makes us see our brothers and sisters as objective matter, energy, and space. We always have the experiences and perceptions appropriate to our vibration level.

The same rules apply to all of us. The rules do not come from anywhere outside ourselves. They come from the truth that we are all equal, we all have the same range of possible behavior and experience. We are free to do anything we want to do, within the necessary laws of our relations as equal beings. And love must be the first law. Love is the action of being in the same space with other beings, which means that love is real, as real as we are. Love is not a limited idea, it is something we do, ultimately with our whole selves.

Perhaps many of us do not like it where we are in the universe now, but we can all be certain that we got where we are by our own decisions to expand in love or withdraw from it.[2]

Making love the ultimate vibration gives you some power and control over your destiny, not to mention the “Good Vibrations.” If everyone learned how to use the law of the heart, as the director of mind, cohesiveness would reign. All of this political polarization, duality of perception, genderization and perceived separation would yield in a new form of cooperation. Conflict, war, separation are all mutually exclusive of love.

The Beach Boys knew what they were singing about.
