“O’Keeffe at 125…”

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum celebrates O’Keeffe’s 125th birthday with a series of events from November 14 through 17.

On Thursday, November 15, The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will celebrate the 125th birthday of O’Keeffe.

In recognition, the museum is honoring all that O’Keeffe’s life meant to American art with events starting on November 14. All proceeds from these events will support the museum’s exhibitions, public programming and youth outreach programs, including the nationally recognized Art and Leadership Programs for Girls and for Boys. Lots to see and do.

Wednesday, November 14th

“Bone Wind Fire,” a film that uses the words of artists O’Keeffe, Emily Carr, and Frida Kahlo to reveal their individual creative processes will be shown at 1  and 6 p.m. at the Museum Education Annex. These screenings will be introduced by Sharyn Udall, author of “Carr, O’Keeffe, Kahlo: Places of Their Own”, the book that inspired director Jill Sharpe to make this 30-minute, award-winning film for the National Film Board of Canada. Free admission to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Santa Fe School of Cooking celebrates O’Keeffe’s birthday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their new location, the site of the former Awakening Museum, at the foot of Johnson Street, where it intersects Guadalupe. This is a wonderful new space for this venerable culinary institution. What better place to celebrate the artist as cook—and O’Keeffe was a legendary one. For this occasion, the O’Keeffe Museum and the School of Cooking present a celebration featuring stories and food representing O’Keeffe’s life. A demonstration-style class boasts desserts from two eras that shaped her career: the Roaring Twenties and Great Depression in New York City, and the wartime Forties in New Mexico. Georgia O’Keeffe: Reading the Work as the Life

This illustrated talk by Roxana Robinson, biographer, art historian and novelist (author of “Georgia O’Keeffe: A Life”), explores O’Keeffe’s rich and complex body of work, paying particular attention to the ways in which it illuminates the artist’s life. Happy Birthday, Georgia O’Keeffe: A Family Program

Celebrate  O’Keeffe’s 125th birthday by joining in the festivities with various activities and fun during this family-centered event that takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Museum Education Annex, 123 Grant Avenue. No reservations needed.

Jazz at La Posada

At 7 p.m. you can celebrate O’Keeffe with a jazz program performed by four-time Grammy Award nominee, Karrin Allyson at the La Posada Resort Hotel and Spa Ballroom, presented in collaboration with Friends of Santa Fe Jazz. Singer/pianist, Allyson has 13 recordings to her credit, including her most recent 2011 release: “Round Midnight.” The New York-based singer was also nominated as 2012 female Jazz Singer of the Year by the Jazz Journal Association.
