Let the Good Times Roll

“Laissez les bons temps rouler…"

As the daytime temperatures in our high desert city rise, so does the number of performances, openings, readings and other events. Recently I talked about the Canyon Road events on tap this weekend and now I see that my attendance at tonight’s ArtSpring event at the Lensic for New Mexico School for the Arts conflicts with Creative Santa Fe’s collaboration event with Twin Cities-based Artspace Projects. Artspace works with local communities to create affordable live, work, studio, commercial and shared non-profit spaces for creative workers and Wendy Holmes, Senior Vice President for Consulting and Strategic Partnerships is here as part of Creative Santa Fe’s Imagined Futures series to talk about such a project.

Holmes was here in 2008 as part of the UNESCO Creative Tourism Conference, which opened the Convention Center and Artspace has done great work with communities around the country.

I wish I could be part of that dialogue. In fact, I wish I had mastered that “two-places-at-the-same-time” thing. Oh well, I hope I have better time-allotment luck next week, when there are two terrific events: The CrawDaddy Blues Fest and The Eldorado studio Tour.

The CrawDaddy Blues Fest is in Madrid for the 5th year in a row.
Featuring local and national acts, CrawDaddy takes place both Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th, from noon to 7 p.m. next to the Madrid Old Coal Town Museum, with parking on the north end of town, just a short drive down Highway 14. Tickets to the daytime events are $15 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday.  In addition, The Mine Shaft Tavern will have Teri True and The Groove Tribe performing Saturday night with a $5 cover at 8 p.m. or free if you have CrawDaddy ticket and on Sunday the Ruebarbs will play from 3 p.m. to 7p.m., with no cover.

Saturday’s lineup includes: Desert Southwest Blues Band, Stephanie Hatfield and Hot Mess, Junior Brown, Teri True and The Groove Tribe. Sunday brings us: Todd Tijerina Band, Broomdust Caravan Nuevo Mexico and Felix y Los Gatos.

The Mine Shaft will mix up a whole mess of live crawfish, shrimp, hamburgers, BBQ, catfish, soft shell crab and many other foods, with a full bar and plenty of shade – rain or shine.

Hey, when do I ever get to say or write “a whole mess?”

The Eldorado Studio Tour
The 13th Annual Eldorado Studio Tour runs the same weekend and I will write more on that later. No need to choose – go to both of these great events. That’s what I love about New Mexico.
