"If you've never been to Wine & Chile before, this is one event you don't want to miss..."
The 21st Annual Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta is just around the corner -- September 21-25 -- and if you are planning on attending the Grand Food & Wine Tasting event, buy your tickets now! The fiesta is one of Santa Fe's most popular food events, and the Grand Tasting is always the biggest draw.
Wine & Chile is a hoot. The five-day fiesta features 75 of Santa Fe's restaurants and 90 national wineries that collaborate to offer more than 40 wine dinners in Santa Fe restaurants, along with cooking demos, wine seminars and live and silent and live wine auctions.
This year, you can tour Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiu home and studio, followed by lunch in Santa Fe at the O'Keeffe Museum Café, or visit the Allan Hauser Sculpture Garden, followed by a luncheon catered by Kim Muller of Real Food Nation. The Santa Fe School of Cooking leads walking tours of acclaimed Santa Fe restaurants including La Boca, Il Piatto and Santacafe, where you'll enjoy private tastings with the chefs.
You can also attend lively Guest Chef Luncheons or Guest Chef Demos and Tastings with Santa Fe chefs Joseph Wrede of the soon to be opened Palace, Martin Rios of Restaurant Martin, Eric DiStefano of Coyote Café, Fernando Olea of Epazote, Charles Dale of Terra at Encantado Resort and Roland Richter of Joe's Diner.
Learn to pair French wine and cheese in a seminar led by cheese expert Laura Werlin and master sommelier Tim Gaiser. Vote for the best pairing of wine and food in the Guest Luncheon and Master Sommelier Throwdown, featuring Wrede, DiStefano, Tom Kerpon of Balconies on the Plaza and Louis Moskow of 315 Restaurant & Wine Bar. And discover the joys of sake in the Sake to Me Baby! wine seminar.
The big event, though, is Saturday's Food & Wine Tasting, held on the beautiful grounds of the Santa Fe Opera. Bring an appetite to this event, as 75 restaurants will serve up some of their very best foods and 90 world-class wineries will pour samples of their wines.
Also popular is the Gruet Golf Classic, where golfers indulge in food and a different sparkling wine at every third hole. Restaurants serving at this event include Jinja, La Casa Sena, Balconies on the Plaza, La Plazuela, Quail Run, Coyote Café, Blue Corn, Ore House at Milagro 139 and Sleeping Dog Tavern.
If you've never been to Wine & Chile before, this is one event you don't want to miss. And if you're a regular, then you know how much fun you'll have! Vamanos!
