Digital Friday/Process

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing. Today is Digital Friday and I am going to talk about the importance of having great Search Engine Optimization or SEO.

Search engine optimization allows your company, brand or product to be quickly and easily found online through search engines such as Google and Yahoo! It is essential that your SEO be maximized to ensure your products are being seen by potential customers.

Your competition and other companies are continuously staking out their online turf. You have to ensure that you have a presence to compete with them. If you don’t have a strong presence you won’t be discovered by potential customers.

Let’s talk about online brand obscurity for a moment. Imagine you are a major company that has been in business a long time and has a great product that delivers on its promise. What would happen to your online effectiveness if numerous new companies came along who were much better at search engine optimization than you?

Even if they have an inferior product, when potential customers look for that product they find these new competitors because your product has dropped way down on the Google pages due to less effective search engine optimization.

Your superior product can’t compete online against maximized SEO and all of a sudden your completion is gobbling up market share. It’s absolutely critical that you be able to cut through that clutter. One of the ways to do that, we talk about it all the time, is to really emphasize what your brand is all about. Consistently telling the story and ensuring you have that number one position in the minds of your customers.

In today’s digital environment you should leverage the internet as much as possible, whether through blogs or social media, so potential customers will find you when they look for your product category.

Great search engine optimization is truly the yellow brick road in my opinion. It is a clear, direct path for potential customers to follow to your virtual door. Look at your SEO. If it isn’t as good as you think it should be, work toward identifying solution so that it really becomes a powerful tool to drive traffic to you.
