"I thought I'd share this beautiful winged thing with you all..."
Sometimes daily life feels overwhelmingly negative. We're suffering through a record drought. Our forests have burned and are now closed. Politicians are bickering, as usual. Violence both at home and abroad takes center stage in the headlines....
Unfortunately, I am easily consumed by this negativity, and find myself feeling depressed and depleted, which makes it even more difficult to remember that even in the darkest moments, there's still so much beauty. If I only stop to look.
A couple of weeks ago, I did just that. Took a day to look. Look and really see. The kids and I headed to Rancho de las Golondrinas--which, by the way, is free for New Mexico residents on Wednesdays!--with a friend and her kids to explore and enjoy the fresh air. Sure, a smoke plume still towered over the western horizon, and there wasn't yet a break in the blistering weather...but we found some shade and cool breezes near the pond. While we sat and enjoyed a moment of cool, this dragonfly circled around us before landing on a willow branch. And so, because I think we all need a reminder sometimes, I thought I'd share this beautiful winged thing with you all. Here's your first Thing of Beauty Thursday shot. Enjoy!
