December is an unusual month for casinos as it features two major holidays---a spiritual holiday that brings many families together, and the other to celebrate the New Year. With this in mind, casinos go all out with the elements that attract so many: gaming, entertainment and food.
The Santa Fe/Espanola area casinos have a full slate of activities. All gaming events and entertainment are for adults. All gaming promotions usually require free membership in the casino’s players club. Most casinos post their gaming and promotions rules.
Here is a summary of what each is doing through New Year’s Day as provided to Enchanted Odds:
The Tesuque casino is calling their December gaming promotion “Santa’s $20,000 Giveaway.” Hot seat drawings will be held throughout the month with the big cash giveaway on Sunday, December 30th (New Year’s Eve. Three $100 Hot Seat drawings will take place every hour from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Day.
Camel Rock will close on Christmas Eve at 4 p.m. and reopen on Christmas Day at 2 p.m. The Christmas Buffet will be available from 5 to 9 p..m. Entrees include turkey breast, glazed ham and roast pork and startsat $17.95 for adults. On New Year’s Eve, the Pueblo Artist Café will be open from 4 to 11 p.m. Breakfast is available on New Year’s Day starting at 8 a.m. with brunch from 11 am to 9 p.m.
Camel Rock will have the biggest entertainment event with a 10 p.m. show featuring Al Hurricane and Al Hurricane Jr. Dinner and show tickets are $35 per person; show-only tickets are $20 per person.
Buffalo Thunder & Cities of Gold
The Pueblo of Pojoaque casinos are giving away a total of three Jeep Wranglers. The vehicles will be awarded on December 15, 22 and 29 at 10:30 p.m. Each casino will also have slot tournaments every Friday in December.
New Year’s entertainment is Burnin’ Ernestine Romero in the Cities of Gold Bingo Hall ($10); DJ Crisco Kidd in the Warehouse at Buffalo Thunder ($20) and Nerd Style with the CALQL8TRZ in BTR’s Turquoise Trail ($5).
Food deals include brunch on Christmas Day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. ($29.99; $19.99 for Player’s Club members); a three-course dinner at Red Sage on Christmas Day starting at $35; and in the Turquoise Trail a $12.99 dinner special.
The aggressive Santa Claran casino in Espanola has a variety of promos in December including “Mystery Stockings” winners every Thursday 7 to 11 p.m.; “Santa’s Stash of Cash” every Friday and Saturday 7 to 11 p.m. with cash prizes of up to $2400; the “Cash Blizzard” on Christmas Day from 4 to 8 p.m.; and the “Top Hats & Tiaras with Diamonds & Studs” cash giveaway on New Year’s Eve with $2013 to be given away at midnight.
In addition to their “Thursday Night Winter Dance” series, the Santa Claran will have entertainment on New Year’s Eve in the event center beginning at 7:30 p.m. A total of five bands will play throughout the evening. The cost is $5.
The Santa Claran will offer a Christmas buffet feast from 11:30 am to 8 p.m. with a menu that includes tamales, enchiladas, baked salmon, pork chops, prime rib, all -you-can eat shrimp and crab legs, dessert and non-alcohol drinks for $26.95 plus tax and gratuity. Children pay $11.95.
Ohkay will be giving away a 55-inch HD TV every day in December via hot seat drawings between 5 and 9 p.m. with five sets to be given away on Christmas Eve. Total value of this promotion is $35,000.
On New Year’s Eve one lucky person will win a 2013 Harley Davidson Heritage motorcycle.
All you can eat steak is being offered every Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. in the buffet for only $9.99
The big New Year’s Eve event is a dance featuring the popular northern New Mexico band, Cuarenta y Cinco. For only $50 a couple, you can enjoy all-you-can eat crab and the dance, or, pay $15 per person, $25 per couple just for the dance.
