New DVD:
The Lunchbox (2013-India) C-105min. D,Sc: Ritesh Batra. In Mumbai (formerly Bombay), the city’s famously efficient lunchtime delivery system has a minor snafu, resulting in the unlikely romance of an unhappily married woman and a man who’s about to retire. Their virtual affair is conducted in the form of notes to each other. Will the two of them ever get past this stage of distant intimacy? Highly recommended. [PG]

The Unknown Known (2014) C-103min. D: Errol Morris. Another scatching political documentary by Morris (Oscar winner for The Fog of War), whose crosshairs this time are focused on Dubya’s Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld (the well-known, often vilified, part-time resident of Taos). Horrifying expose of how a single, but extremely powerful and driven man led America to uncalled-for war. Highly recommended. [PG-13]

The Young Doctor’s Notebook (2014-England) C-93min. D: Alex Hardcastle. Jon Hamm, Daniel Radcliffe. It’s 1917, on the cusp of the Russian Revolution, and a doctor fresh out of med school is questioning his future, personified by his older self, whom he engages in dialog…only to find out that he is completely unprepared for the shocking realities of the actual medical world. Radcliffe (Harry Potter) is the younger, Hamm (Mad Men) the older, in this dark comic noir. [NR]
