Two single parents, survivors of their bad blind date, are appalled to find themselves at the same family resort, where their kids bond even as they try not to. Something of a 21st century variation on Yours, Mine, and Ours (1968), but shot in Buford GA and Sun City, South Africa. Lead couple’s 3rd film together, following The Wedding Singer (1998) and 50 First Dates (2004). [PG-13]

Double, The (2014) C-93min. D,CoSc: Richard Ayoade. Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn, Cathy Moriarty, James Fox. Dark comedy about a government clerk who discovers that his physical double, but his emotional opposite, is working at the same agency he is. From the 1846 Russian novella by Feodor Dostoevsky. Fun fact: Almost made by Roman Polanski in 1996 with John Travolta. [R; language]


Iqbal (2005-India) C-132min. D,Sc: Nagesh Kukunoor. Naseeruddin Shah. Crowd-pleased about a deaf-mute man utterly obsessed with cricket. Not at all the usual Bollywood film. [NR] 

Love Punch (2013-France) C-95min. D,Sc: Joel Hopkins. Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall. Heist comedy about a divorced couple reconciling solely to avenge themselves on the sleazy French “businessman” who bankrupted their retirement fund. Attractively shot on location. [PG-13; some sexual content, language, rude humor]



The Normal Heart (2014) C-132min. D: Ryan Murphy. Mark Ruffalo, Jonathan Groff, Taylor Kitsch, Julia Roberts. Incisive human drama about the dawning of the Age of AIDS in New York, from 1981-84. Adapted by Larry Kramer from his 1985 play originally presented by Joseph Papp’s Public Theater. [NR]


Promise, A (2014) C-98min. D,CoSc: Patrice Leconte. Rebecca Hall, Alan Rickman, Richard Madden. Period piece set in 1912 Germany (but shot in English) about the illicit romance of a humble clerk, and the boss’ wife. [NR]


Trust Me (2013) C-89min. D,Sc: Clark Gregg. Clark Gregg, Felicity Huffman, Allison Janney, William H. Macy, Amanda Peet, Sam Rockwell, Molly Shannon. A low-level agent whose only clients are child actors, and who is a former child star himself, stumbles across a real find, a talented 13-year-old…who may not be what she seems to be. Belle (2014-England) C-104min. D: Amma Asante. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Wilkinson, Miranda Richardson, Emily Watson. A mixed-race woman in 18th century England, the illegitimate daughter of a Royal Navy admiral, is reared decently by her aristocratic uncle, but she still runs into the issue of slavery. Based on a true story, featuring Mbatha-Raw (Odd Thomas, Larry Crowne), a star-in-the-making. Note: This Fox Searchlight release is the first major studio film to come out only on Blu-ray; there is no DVD. [PG]
