Meet Performance Santa Fe

Performance Santa Fe, a cultural cornerstone in Santa Fe since 1937, presents the world’s best music, dance, and theater in Santa Fe. As it embarks on its 87th season, the organization persists in its dedication to upholding excellence in the performing arts while also demonstrating a commitment to innovation and experimentation through extraordinary performance offerings.

The genesis of Performance Santa Fe dates to 1937 as a segment of the Columbia Artists Management’s Community Concerts program. Designed to cater to America’s growing hunger for live, premier performances, it began as the “Santa Fe Community Concert Association,” and later changed to the “Santa Fe Concert Association.” The organization underwent a transformational rebranding in 2014, emerging as Performance Santa Fe to mirror the growth of its already expansive artistic and educational undertakings.

The importance of free arts education was noted by Performance Santa Fe as early as the late sixties. Today, the organization’s educational offerings are numerous and far-reaching. The Masterclass Series mentors advanced students through collaborative events with artists on our mainstage series. Arts for Life assists school arts programs through in-class instruction and mentorship opportunities. The Field Trip Series grants local students a taste of world-class performances. Additionally, participants in Performance Santa Fe’s education programs are offered free or discounted tickets to mainstage performances.

Coming off the success of their last three sold out shows, Performance Santa Fe is on a rebound. They have re-established their brand, their presence and their reputation for bringing the world’s best to Santa Fe. Brad Mehldau’s sold out concert at the St. Francis Auditorium on February 7th delighted piano concert lovers with his original compositions, jazz exploration, and pop allure. The unique performance of the Auntie’s: Women of the White Shell Water Place was a huge hit and focused on indigenous storytelling in a multi-media presentation through the voices of three “Aunties,” Native American culture bearers from northern New Mexico. And most recently, the huge success of selling out the Lensic with their Mardi Gras Celebration with Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra. Among their many classics they performed, one of the most memorable featured Vocalist Tonya Boyd-Cannon’s rendition of Thelonius Monk’s Round Midnight, brought the audience to their feet.

President of Performance Santa Fe Leah Gordon adds, “We are overjoyed with the recent success and are thrilled about our upcoming shows. Our volunteers, new staff and board of directors are looking forward to the exciting future…stay tuned.”

Performance Santa Fe’s marketing has increased dramatically with increased presence on TV, Radio and online. With media partners like Hutton Broadcasting, American General Media, KRQE Media Group, Trend Magazine and New Mexico Magazine, the message is getting out in more dynamic ways than ever before.

To finish out the season, there are three more concerts at the Lensic. Starting with the Kronos Quartet on March 19, Kenny Barron and Regina Carter on April 3 and Jordi Savall with music of the Baroque revolution in Europe. The remaining lineup is at the St. Francis Auditorium at the New Mexico Museum of Art with pianist Benjamin Grosvenor March 6, the Takács Quartet and Julian Labro on April 19 and finishing out the season with the Isidore String Quartet May 12, fresh off their performances at Alice Tully Hall and the Kennedy Center.

Performance Santa Fe continues to bring the very best of music, dance, and theater to Santa Fe. Go to our website at performancesantafe.org to buy tickets.
