What's Your Story?
I will always remember my first Balloon Fiesta! It was 1993, as I stood on the field, wide-eyed, mouth open, I scanned the area to search for the next magical inflation, only to find an even bigger surprise - my then boyfriend on one knee with a diamond ring in his hand! Balloon Fiesta will always hold a special place in our family's hearts.
Ok, we made this story up. But we know it's happened before! Did you get engaged at Balloon Fiesta? Meet your future spouse during a balloon glow or have a special reunion? Discover a hidden passion for piloting balloons?
If you have a unique story about your experience at Balloon Fiesta, we want to hear it! Each year, thousands of people gather in central New Mexico's high-altitude desert to feel the excitement and awe of standing amongst hundreds of giant aircraft as they lift off into the crisp fall air. During that time, we know there are moments, chance happenings, serendipitous instants that visitors take home with them for the rest of their lives.
So, what's yours?
Send us a picture and brief note to firstname.lastname@example.org on your special story for the chance to be featured in one of our future newsletters or social media.

Inside the Basket
Kim Vesely, Pilot and Navigator
Kim Vesely is both a pilot and a navigator for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, having dedicated her time to the event in a variety of different capacities.
Her introduction to the Balloon Fiesta came as a result of her time covering the event for KOB-TV back in the seventies. She was a young news producer assigned to cover the event because "nobody else wanted to get up that early." Her path to becoming a pilot is a whole other story that you'll want to read about in this month's Inside the Basket.
January in Ballooning
On January 7, 1793, Jean Pierre Blanchard became the first to fly a hot air balloon in North America. George Washington was present to see the first balloon launch.
