ALBUQUERQUE, NM – BeWellnm, New Mexico’s Health Insurance Exchange, encourages New Mexicans who want their health coverage to begin on January 1, 2017 to start the enrollment process now. The 2016 open enrollment period is now in full swing, and although New Mexicans have until January 31, 2017 to enroll in coverage for 2017, those who want coverage beginning January 1 must complete the enrollment process by December 15, 2016.

New Mexicans with plans or carriers no longer offered through the exchange will be automatically re-enrolled to a carrier and plan most similar to the current plan in order to avoid gaps in coverage. However, if consumers are not sure about the status of their current plan or costs for 2017, beWellnm encourages consumers to login to their account portal to check availability and prices as they may have changed.

“New Mexicans continue to have a lot of choices this enrollment period,” said Linda Wedeen, interim CEO of beWellnm. “Many New Mexicans may also not realize that they qualify for subsidies that are only available through beWellnm, so we encourage anyone looking for individual coverage to contact us to find out what financial assistance may be available. BeWellnm has more than 500 agents, brokers and enrollment counselors across the state available – free of charge – to assist consumers in finding a plan that works best for their family and budget.”

Resources are available statewide to make the process of shopping for health insurance easier, including:

Updated beWellnm.com Website: New features include a plan finder, a subsidy calculator, live chat capabilities for real-time assistance, 25 new informational pages, a calendar of enrollment events and a Spanish site that can be found at bewellnm.com/Casa.

Enrollment Assistance Centers: Across the state, beWellnm offers in-person assistance in both English and Spanish. All centers will be open by appointment only until 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 and have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 15.
