s plantation fantasies have been at the forefront of the art world
for well over two decades now. This talk will explore how various art entities
and institutions have traded on the interlocking strategies of

authenticity

and

irony

to keep her work both visible and highly rewarded, while actually
continuing a long history of representation in the visual cultures of
enslavement.
Presented by Kirsten Pai Buick, Professor of Art History at the University of
New Mexico where she researches and teaches the visual culture of the first
British Empire, American landscape representation, African American art, art
of the U.S., and women as patrons and collectors of art.
