Pecos, NM: On Sunday, October 23, Stephen Fried—award-winning investigative journalist and essayist, and adjunct professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism—will examine the entrepreneurial vision of Fred Harvey. Discover how this service and tourism industry founder helped shape American culture and history and still influences our lives in surprising ways. The free event takes place at the Pecos National Historical Park Visitor Center at 1:30 pm.
Mr. Fried wrote Appetite for America: Fred Harvey and the Business of Civilizing the Wild West—One Meal at a Time, named one of the ten best books of 2010 by the Wall Street Journal and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He recently co-wrote (with Patrick J. Kennedy) A Common Struggle: A Personal Journey Through the Past and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction; and articles in Vanity Fair, Washington Post Magazine, GQ, Rolling Stone, Glamour, Ladies' Home Journal and Philadelphia Magazine. He has won two National Magazine Awards.

From North I-25: Take the Pecos/Glorieta Exit, #299. Left onto overpass, right onto Route 50; proceed on Route 50 for eight miles. At the village of Pecos, take a right at the four-way stop onto Route 63. In two miles, the park will be on your right. From South I-25: Take the Rowe Exit, #307. Follow signs. From Highway 63, the park will be on your left.
