The Holidays are Happening at the Santa Fe Children's Museum!
December is packed full of trains and other festivities!
SANTA FE, NM, September 23, 2016 - The Holidays are a special time for Children and the Santa Fe Children's Museum promises to be a special place for them again this Festive Season.  We've extended our hours for Winter Break and are open seven days a week from 12/17 to 12/31, and again this year we offer two of our most popular events, Winter Solstice and Holiday Trains.

Holiday Trains, our annual, interactive model train exhibit, where visitors will take the controls, maneuver the trains and build scenery for the exhibit, begins Saturday, December 17th.   Holiday Trains runs daily through Saturday, December 31, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, closing at 3:00 pm on December 24th and 31, and all day, December 25th. Presented in collaboration with the Santa Fe Model Railroad Club and the Children's Train Club, Holiday Trains this year includes not only a special Thomas the Tank Engine display but a vintage train set raffle.  Visitors can view the Vintage Lionel Southern Express O Gauge set - in its original box, at the Museum Gift Shop throughout the holidays and the drawing will be January 5th.  Raffle Tickets are $5 each or $5 for $20 and proceeds go to the Museum.  Holiday Trains is free with Museum Admission.

Winter Solstice, will celebrate the longest night of the year on Sunday, December 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  Festivities include a farolito labyrinth constructed by local artist  Courtenay Mathey,  African drumming with Akeem Ayanniyi, storytelling with Indiana Bones (at 6pm) and sky viewing with astronomer John Zysk, from the Astronomy Department at Santa Fe Community College.  Outdoors we'll roast marshmallows and have hot chocolate around bonfires. The Museum will close at 5:00 pm on Sunday and then re-open at 5:30 for Winter Solstice.  Admission is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members.

Through the holidays the Santa Fe Children's Museum will be open daily from Sunday, December 12th 2016 through Tuesday, January 3rd 2017.  Holiday hours Mondays through Saturdays are 10:00 am through 5:00 pm and Sundays from noon to 5:00 pm.  The museum will close at 3pm on Saturday, December 24 and Saturday, December 31
th and will be closed all day December 25 and January 1.  Normal business hours will resume on January 4th.
