Eye on the Mountain Art Gallery hosts Chaco: New Art Originals by Rachel Houseman, September 4 – October 2, 2021. Eye on the Mountain is Santa Fe’s Premier Sacred & Visionary Fine Art Gallery located in the heart of the Railyard Arts District and the Guadalupe Arts District, featuring unique art from a collective of over 20 artists. Eye on the Mountain Art Gallery is a true collector’s gem! Come and meet the artist September 4th (Opening) and October 2nd (Show Closing Artist Reception), both nights 5-9 p.m.

Artist Statement: This art show is designed to honor the ancient Cultures of New Mexico through depictions of the art, architecture and sacred landscapes of Chaco Canyon. No one knows exactly what happened to the People at Chaco Canyon. What happened long ago and why they left is a mystery. Some call them the Anasazi, some call them the “Original Peoples,” as an artist I feel that it is important to highlight such important natural places; honoring them not just as a jewel of the Southwest region, but also as a national historical treasure. I am devoted to helping give awareness to natural places of wonder throughout the Southwest through my colorful art. Like the Colorists of Santa Fe before me, I seek to inspire with bright colors depicting the quality of light and sacred feeling of serendipity. For me the American Southwest is a special place full of wonder; with drastic, beautiful intermingling rivers, rocks and landscapes not found anywhere else in the world! In 2021 I am presenting new artworks in order to help preserve Chaco Canyon and to honor the ancestors by protecting their lands from over-development through this awareness. I am hoping to bring attention to these important matters in an effort to save Chaco Canyon from being damaged and the sacred from being desecrated.
