The Santa Fe Opera Guild presents the online Vivace Book Group reading The Merry Wives of Windsor, Monday, January 10, 2022, 6-7:30 p.m. Why has Sir John Falstaff, a character in three of Shakespeare’s plays, so captured the imagination for four centuries? Some love him, some hate him, but few disregard him. We’ll talk about the plot and Falstaff’s role in Verdi’s opera Falstaff, based on The Merry Wives or Windsor, as well as his major roles in two of Shakespeare’s history plays, from which Verdi and Boito borrowed text. Internationally recognized Shakespeare scholar Dr. Robin Williams will be facilitator for the session.
