Forrest Fenn’s fan base has grown vastly since the art dealer and writer hid what is famously known around the world as “Fenn’s Treasure.” It started in 2013, and he has since been receiving emails and letters from would-be claimants of all ages. Naturally, his notes from young ones are a treasure for us all. Many thanks to Mr. Forrest Fenn for sharing these excerpts of correspondence from his youngest fans with SantaFe.com.
10 yr old girl
“Hey Forrest Fenn, I sincerely hope you put all of that stuff in ziplocks before you buried that stuff in the forest.”
11 yr old boy
“These kids around here don’t know nothing. They think I’m going to tell them where the gold is. Ha ha.”
9 yr old boy
“My dad and mom are sure the gold things in your box are so rusted no one would want them. Why did you do that?”
8 yr old girl
“My gramma is so sick with a bad disease. If you give me a lot of money I would take it to her and she would feel better.”
10 yr old boy
“My parents think I’m a failure and you can’t talk to me about important stuff like buried treasures. If me and you found it together they would see how smart I am.”
9 yr old boy
“If I could find all of that money you hid, I wouldn’t have to go to school anymore and you know how good that is. Do you think you and me could make a deal.”
7 yr old boy
“I am really wise and make good grades and that is how I know where you stashed all of that stuff. If you will tell me where it is I could go get it.”
9 yr old boy
“My mom thinks my bike is not good enough to take me to the mountains in Montana and other places. If you will take me for a new bike I will split the treasure with you. What do you think is a fair split?”
8 yr old boy
“Please Fenn, my sister thinks she is so smart and things. She is not allowed to tease with me but she still does. Will you talk to her please and make her share what she knows. I am her brother and it is important that we stick together.”
9 yr old girl
“Mr. Fenn, if I find the treasure do I really have to share it with my mean brother? Please tell my father that I don’t? He likes him better than me.”
9 yr old girl
“Mister Fenn sir, do you think the Rocky Mountains are too high for me to climb up looking for your goodies? I am already 9.”
10 yr old boy
“Me and my pals are planning to go get the stuff and things in the box but my parents want to make me stay in school. I really don’t know what that is all about because just think of what I could do if I had it. I would give some of it to my teachers but one of them I won’t. Do you think I am selfish for saying it?”
11 yr old boy
“Mr. Fenn, I have read your book about your treasure and you can’t fool me. I’m not going to waste my allowance traveling and wasting money.”
8 yr old boy
“You think you can fool me because I am just a kid. My dad said I can prove your wrong.”
8 yr old girl
“I know where your treasure is but my mom won’t talk to me any more. What do you think I should do now? My dad works out of town and he never comes home.”
