Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to enter the Northern New Mexico LEGO contest?

The contest is open to all children aged 12 and under who reside in Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Taos, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Mora, or Colfax counties. The competition is divided into two age groups: 8 and under, and 9 through 12. Because this is a regional event, residency in one of these specific counties is required for eligibility. Participants should be prepared to register under their correct age bracket to ensure fair judging against their peers.

How do the different competition categories work?

Participants can choose between two distinct formats: Live Build Sessions or the “Bring Your Own Build” category. In Live Build Sessions, children build on-site using bricks provided by SFAHBA, ensuring everyone starts with the same materials. The “Bring Your Own Build” category allows children to spend more time on their creations at home using their own collections. Note that home-built entries must be hand-delivered to the SFAHBA office by 12:30 p.m. on the day of the event to be eligible for judging.

What should I know about the event location and lunch?

The event is held at the SFAHBA office located at 2520-B Camino Entrada, Santa Fe, NM, 87507. To make this a family-friendly experience, the organizers are providing a community lunch for all registered participants from noon to 1 p.m. This provides a break between the morning and afternoon build sessions. If your child has specific dietary restrictions, please contact SFAHBA in advance via their website to see if accommodations can be made or plan accordingly.

How do I get a spot for the Live Build sessions?

To participate in the 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. live sessions, you must register in advance at https://www.sfahba.com/2026-lego-contest/. Because building materials and space at the Santa Fe office are limited, these spots often fill up quickly. On-site registration may not be available if the sessions reach capacity. Once registered, aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled session to check in and find your building station. If the live sessions are full, you can still participate by entering the home-build category.
