Spring has arrived, and with it, the urge to get up, get out, and get moving. The Santa Fe Children’s Museum has just the ticket for anybody interested in taking advantage of the beautiful weather, while contributing to a good cause. The museum hosts its annual fundraising challenge Move for the Museum from April 27, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.. This event supports the Santa Fe Children’s Museum’s many programs that positively impact children and families in northern New Mexico.
About Move for the Museum
To kick off the event, there will be a 5K run/walk, in memory of Children’s Museum board member and beloved community member Michaelann Perea, who inspired and changed many lives in Santa Fe and beyond. On Sunday, April 27 the community will come together for the 5k Run/Walk kick-off event at Bicentennial/Alto Park (1121 Alto St) in Santa Fe. The event is open to runners at all levels and will feature a Kids Dash for children around the park’s baseball field.
Throughout the Move for the Museum two-week challenge, members of the community are encouraged to walk, bike, run, or move in ANY way in support of the Santa Fe Children’s Museum and its programs. The challenge is basically anything you want to make of it. Teachers are encouraged to challenge their students, clubs are encouraged to challenge their members, and families are encouraged to create meaningful moments that resonate throughout the community at large.
All Move for the Museum efforts benefit camp scholarships for low-income families, complimentary Grab-and-Go Kits to rural areas of New Mexico, and distributing 1,500 pounds of produce from the museum’s Community Garden to food-insecure families in Santa Fe. Other programs include virtual field trips, planetarium shows for Title 1 schools, and an upcoming Mobile Museum. Even better, all donations are 100% tax deductible.
How to Participate
Upon registering for the 5K through a ticket purchase, you automatically join the Move for the Museum Challenge. All you have to do is sign up and commit to move. You can make a difference, no matter who you are, how you choose to move, or how far you go. Everything you need to know about participation and registration can be found on the website.
Donations and fundraiser opportunities are available.
