Sorrel Sky Gallery Celebrates Decades with the Legends - SantaFe.com

When was the last time you met a legend? The 2023 Santa Fe Indian Market celebrates its 101st year from August 19 – 20, and Sorrel Sky Gallery is helping with the celebration, by bringing together legendary Indigenous artists and rising stars under one roof. Called Decades with the Legends the exhibit is a four-day showcase of the most accomplished artists represented by the gallery, including demonstrations, lectures, book signings, and more. Decades with the Legends runs August 17 – 20, 2023 at Sorrel Sky Gallery, located at 125 W. Palace Avenue in Santa Fe.

Artists Included in the Exhibition

  • Victoria Adams – Southern Cheyenne/Arapaho jeweler and designer who juxtaposes standard materials with plant, animal, and human forms.
  • Sylvanna Apache – Navajo/Mescalero Apache jeweler working in copper and silver stamped with traditional Navajo designs.
  • Darryl Dean Begay – multiple award-winning Navajo jeweler whose precious stone design work reflects Navajo custom.
  • Tom Gilleon – Cherokee fine artist best known for his paintings of tipis, Plains Indians, and Old West imagery.
  • Shane Hendren – award-winning Navajo metal smith and jeweler combining natural elements and cowboy culture into his wearable art.
  • Ben Nighthorse – award-winning Northern Cheyenne jeweler, and former U.S. senator from Colorado, known for his highly collectible adornments.
  • Pahponee – Kickapoo/Potawatomi self-taught clay and bronze artist combining traditional methods with contemporary pottery designs.
  • Kevin Red Star – renowned Crow painter from Montana known for his meticulous attention to historical detail and tradition.
  • Ray Tracey – award-winning Navajo jeweler whose creations stand as transitional figures from traditional to contemporary designs.
  • Cody Sanderson – Acclaimed and renowned Navajo artist known for his contemporary and playful designs.
  • David Yarrow – British fine art photographer whose evocative work depicting Indigenous communities and landscapes have gained him patrons worldwide.
