Hutton Broadcasting is introducing a new sound to Durango, Colorado, with the launch of Radio Free Durango on KKDG 99.7 FM. Beginning October 3, 2024, the station will switch from its CHR format to Adult Album Alternative (AAA), offering a diverse music selection that prioritizes discovery and variety.

Rooted in the free-form FM radio style of the 1970s, Radio Free Durango will feature a mix of classic and contemporary artists. Listeners can expect music from legends like Bob Marley, Tom Petty, and U2, alongside newer names like Phoebe Bridgers, Billy Strings, and Brandi Carlile. The station will also showcase local and regional acts, such as Elder Grown, Stillhouse Junkies, and the Garrett Young Collective, highlighting Durango’s connection to the Colorado music scene.

According to Program Director Chris Diestler, “Mountain towns are naturally suited to the AAA format, which fits well with outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and skiing.” Radio Free Durango will serve as a soundtrack for Durango’s active community, providing a wide range of genres, including indie rock, blues, folk, reggae, and soul. With a deep music library, the station aims to offer more than just mainstream hits, focusing on music discovery and rediscovery.

In addition to its on-air broadcast, Radio Free Durango will stream online at RadioFreeDurango.com and VisitFourCorners.com, allowing listeners both in and outside of Durango to enjoy the station.

With its eclectic playlist and community-driven focus, Radio Free Durango is set to become a key part of Durango’s local radio landscape. Tune in to 99.7 FM and explore a fresh blend of music that complements the town’s outdoor lifestyle and creative spirit.
