Walk With Us For Mental Health - SantaFe.com

This year, October 2 – 8 has been designated Mental Health Awareness Week by the National Alliance on Mental illness (NAMI). In recognition of this call to action, the Santa Fe affiliate of NAMI is hosting a fundraising event, called Walk With Us For Mental Health. This family friendly event takes place at Alto/Bicentennial Park, on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a proclamation by Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber, accompanied by Santa Fe City Councilwoman Signe Lindell, and Santa Fe County Commissioner Anna Hansen.

There have been positive changes in recent times, with stigma around some mental health issues such as anxiety and depression seeing improvements, but that is just the beginning. Many more stigmatized conditions have yet to be addressed, such as personality, schizoaffective, and dissociative disorders, which require grass roots efforts to continue raising awareness. Events like this one serve that purpose.

This is your chance to get involved. While Walk with Us is a fundraiser for NAMI Santa Fe, all are welcome and encouraged to attend the walk even if they have not donated. The main goals are to have fun, enjoy being with others in-person again, and focus on the importance of mental health in everyone’s lives. As an incentive, the first 50 walkers will receive a free t-shirt, but there will also be plenty of drinks, snacks and craft booths to peruse.

NAMI-Santa Fe is a volunteer-based local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots-based organization dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness – including loved ones. Walk With Us For Mental Health is one of 120 NAMI walk events taking place across the country to raise awareness of this growing concern.

So, lace up your walking shoes and put one foot in front of another for a good cause. For more information on the Walk With Us For Mental Health, including how to sponsor or donate, visit the website.
