Here’s some food for thought. The Interfaith Community Shelter at Pete’s Place provided overnight Shelter to 880 individuals and served over 61,000 meals during their most recent year of service to Santa Fe’s homeless community.
To support its work with people who are homeless, the Interfaith Community Shelter at Pete’s Place presents Chefscapades, a gourmet dinner benefitting the shelter and celebrating its mission to care for the most vulnerable members of our community. The Interfaith Community Shelter hosts its annual Chefscapades fundraiser on Wednesday, September 4 at La Fonda on the Plaza.
What is Chefscapades?
Chefscapades is not a competition. It has never been a competition. It is, instead, a collaboration among talented local chefs to create a meal that is unique, harmonious, and spectacular! Over the course of a beautiful fall evening, all of the chefs will work together in the kitchen at the La Fonda on the Plaza to prepare and plate their courses. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the garden courtyard and patio, then moves inside for dinner in the ballroom, at 6:30 p.m.
As a special treat this year, the shelter has added the Remarkable Raffle to broaden the fundraiser to people who may not be able to attend the event. Three Pete’s Place board members donated a private flight to visit Carlsbad Caverns, a one-week stay in a breathtaking home in the mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado and an authentic hand-made Navajo rug. Find out more about Chefscapades and the Remarkable Raffle on the website.
Steve Stucker, retired KOB-TV4 weatherman and widely recognized voice of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, will MC this year’s Chefscapades event. (He’s pictured here in 2017 with Deputy Director Beverly Kellam’s youngest children.)
Who Is Participating?
A group of very unique Santa Fe restaurants have chefs participating at this year’s Chefscapades
Alkemē – Alkemē’s culture-to-table food menu is Asian heritage cuisine reimagined. Escondido – The debut restaurant of three-time Food Network champion Fernando Ruiz, Escondido will open in early August and feature a fusion of items from the Coastal, Central, and Northern Mexico regions. Chef Ruiz is also a co-founder of a nonprofit called the Entrepreneurial Institute of Northern New Mexico, which offers job training programs – centered on cooking – for people who are incarcerated or at risk of incarceration.
Horno – this is chef David Sellars’ second appearance at Chefscapades, his first as a chef for Street Food Institute. His newest venture is Horno restaurant, a gastropub where street food meets fine dining. David prides himself in “making great food that is not killer expensive.”
