How to Enter the Zozobra 2022 Art Contest | SantaFe.com
The 2022 Zozobra art contest is now open! We’ve heard from our friends at the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe that they are seeking artists to design the Official 2022 Zozobra Adult and Youth Posters and T-shirt images. If you haven’t yet met him, Zozobra, also known as “Old Man Gloom”, is a giant puppet who is burned each year after being filled with our frets and worries. It’s a uniquely Santa Fe tradition and your art could be part of it! Read here about nonprofits that were supported by the burning of Zozobra in 2020.
The Kiwanis Decades Project has the theme for the Zozobra art contest moving through the decades, and this year it is the 1990s.
“Everyone in New Mexico wants to be a part of the Zozobra festivities!” says Ray Sandoval, Zozobra Event Chair. “What better way is there than an art contest for New Mexico artists, the young and the young at heart, to create their vision of Santa Fe’s favorite icon for our official 2022 adult and student posters and t-shirts? We can’t wait to see what happens when Zozobra encounters the talent of New Mexico’s amazing artists!”
Entry categories for the Zozobra art contest include official posters and official T-shirts. The youth category is open to young artists up to the age of 21. The general category is open to all artists and all ages. All designs need to be primarily of Zozobra and those that incorporate the 1990s theme will be prioritized. Entries are due by Friday, April 29, 2022, at 5 p.m.

The winning artwork will be seen by thousands who can’t wait to hang a new Zozobra poster on their wall or add the 2022 Zozobra t-shirt to their collection. And best of all, net proceeds of poster and t-shirt sales will be given back to our community in the form of grants to area nonprofits that make life better for New Mexico kids!
